Thread: Merchant profession: How to make it work better

Essentially an automatic consignment system.

One feature that really would need to be added to this is a list of who's allowed to do it.I already have problems with people leaving stuff on my vender on offer that I don't want and I think that sort of thing might make it worse. But I think a filtered "buy" list is a necessity as it is.

I doubt if many people would use it because I think most crafters want to sell their own wares, but it would be a good addition.

Agreed, that is consignment...

I would not do it, if it were like you said, because of the 10% at the end. You are not taking in the fees on the house, the vendor and Ad Fees. You are placing ALL the risk on the Merchant, and none on the crafter.

I could see a system where a crafter offers an Item for sale, and the merchant takes 15% of sales price, and a set fee of say (20 Credits, for vendor fees, much like the bazaar, only no 3k limit) if it does not sell at all.

Also, if I had an item in a mechants shop (At this point we should have spoken, and a deal forged) I would help tell people where the shop is, that away, when they win, I win.

Isn't that what your profit margin is for?

Again, The merchant is taking 100% of the risk, ALL OF IT.

If the item does not sale, then the merchant has wasted the space in his vendor, paid fees on the item (Given that the fees are fixed, that could be 5000 smakers) and marketed it. Why should they then have to pay for a no sale. I mean the fact is I would not take an item that does not have the likelyhood af selling, but I do not think that the merchant should have to pay for a service they give.

There is also a need for the crafter to take some risk, pick a good merchant, make a good product.

Given the idea as it stands (I think it is a good one, with tweeks) If a plumber comes out to your house, if he fixes the clog, you give him $300 buck, if he fails, he gives you $30. Never mind his time, the gas to get to your house, the person on the phone, and so on. At best, he leaves with nothing, most would still charge you the service call fee.

If it were a listing fee (Paying for my service) and a commission (For compleating the task)

I think this would be a very interesting way to increase the working relationship between those that want to craft and those that enjoy buying and selling products. I'm not sure the coding that would be involved but it might be doable.

On a side note though I really can't be quiet on this any longer. Numtini are you just a blind monkey groping in the dark about anything dealing with economics and a working economy or do you just have some sick fetish for going on any post written or commented on by the merchant corespondant and posting anything to contradict her? Seriously some of the garbage you have posted has been completely lacking in thought or knowledge of the merchant class and yet you feel it necessary to spew it. Remember its better to remain quiet and let people wonder if your idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

For everyone else please forgive the sidetrack of a really good idea but someone had to say something about this idiot. I have been reading these boards for sometime without posting because most threads have really good information and dialogue discussing ways to make us better or detail bugs we face but I am getting really sick of seeing her try and hijack every thread with her contradict the corespondant festish.

And before you respond with your not a merchant go away... I am a creature handler and a merchant.

" Your a Master Creature Handler?..... Why would you waste your time doing that? ... Do you like being useless or do you just like the constant nerf bat beatings?"

Karai is a tailor with a victim complex.

Of course..SOMEONE has to take the opposite side of every discussion. There was bound to be someone with a vendetta for our first Merchant Correspondant.. and here he is!

Please..go to the bookstore and buy a book on basic business thought. I'm not asking you to go get an MBA, I'm simply suggesting that basic ideas of what a 'profit' is or a 'margin' or the position a pure entreprenur plays in a 'free-market economy' might help with your enjoyment of this class, and make you sound slightly less silly when you post on these boards.

Respectfully,

Marqie, I believe that was a personal attack against me, not you. As to our disagreements, I'm sorry if you are taking this as personal. This was not my intention in any way. When I asked in the other thread about server reset or time passed, it was an honest question. I have tried very hard to not make personal comments or attacks, but to stick to issues. If I have failed in this, my apologies.

Csin,

I thought you were speaking that YOU did not like me "Merchant Correspondant.. and here he is!" Given that she is a she (by her Icon), and you are a he (by your icon), I thought you were refering to you.

Sorry, I am just a little flustered today, it is Friday, I want to go home, I want the big patch (For some merchant love). Forgive me please

Marq you misunderstand me. I think you're doing GREAT!

I think Karai is a nay-sayer of the first order who needs to get off your case.

Was that clearer?

Hi!

I've been trying to figure out how the merchant profession work and have a suggestion to how it could be improved. Please comment and come with you're own opinion and thoughts.

Today:
1. Crafter goes to a merchants store and places his Uber Weapon for 2k
2. The merchant checkes it store and see.. aahh.. nice... this is atleast worth 5k
3. The merchant buys the weapon
4. The crafter get's its 2k and the merchant is down 2k and up 1 Uber Weapon
5. WeaponDude1 goes to the store.. ahh.. cool weapon.. and buys it for 5k
6. Tada.. the merchant got 5k-2k and has a profit for 3k

This is how I belive it works.. correct me if im wrong.

My suggestion:
1. The crafter goes to a store he knows has a good merchant.
2. The crafter puts his Uber Weapon up for sale and sets a minimum price of 2k
3. The Merchant checks the vendor.. aaahhh.. a new weapon worth 5k and accept it. Tada.. now he got 7 days to sell it
4. He puts it up for 5k in the store cause he knows thats the markets price.

Now we have 2 outputs:
1. A buyer comes in and wants the product. He buys it for 5k and the merchant recive 20-30% of the totalt sum.
2. No one wants it cause it's way to expensive and the seller do nothing to promote his shop. (no entertainers, no sales etc) so he has to pay a 10% penalty to the seller and return the product.

This would be a much more fun system.. the crafter and the merchant both get benefits from a highest possible price. The crafter do not have to be updated on all the sale prices (thats the merchants job) and the merchant do not have to lock the same amount of credits in stuff since the crafter "lends" out the product.

(I also posted this on SWG Discussion, but think this is a better place - sorry for duplicate posting)

I am a crafter myself and know of many who wants to craft, but spending time getting the right and fair prices for stuff scares them away.

In my suggestion the merchant will take ALOT of less risk then in the current system. As someone already said the merchants do not take any products they dont KNOW they make a profit off. With this system they only take 10% risk.

Would be really cool to get some developers comments, but in the amount of posts here its not easy for them to read them all.

Many good suggestions folks! Keep em comming and the game will be even greater!
