Thread: Merchants Need Unique Looking Shops!
Architects should be able to consturct more floorplans exclusive for Shop Owners to use, including sectioned storage areas and a more private locked area (with grantable access, this is mentioned by Marqie in her post). These could easily be placed into the Architects tree and can correspond with the Merchants tree like Hiring is. As so...in the Architect tree the have the Building Line, implement different sixe shops going up that line until we have Master Architect where we finally end up with a Large Shopping Mall or Retail Store of some sort (which I would like to get leasing involved, but thats another story). Now in the Mechant tree you can pair the sizes up the Hiring tree. Meaning a normal player without and Merchant skill would not have ownership or be able to Place a player made Shop. Any Feedback?
I agree.
Not only do we need unique shops, I would recommend they have these benefits:
1) Be counted against some merchant skill given total, not our lots. A player might, for instance, have 4 small shops.. or one big shop. The reason I see this as important is I am also a miner. My lots for my shop are counting against the harvesters I can manage. I cant open shops on multiple planets (selling corellian ore on tattoine, and tatooine ore on corellia, for instance) without losing production.
2) Be given a more relaxed distance from cities so we can snuggle them up a little closer. Less walking for our customers.

1) Your not suppose to be able to do everything, so I disagree with having a seperate limit.
2) All that would do is make it where people would live in shops instead of homes. Besides it's a non-issue once player cities are introduced.
Shops could be placed in the construction line, especially considering that is the most useless line, in dare I say it, out of all the professions in the game.

I disagree with this statement. Merchants should be able to own more buildings. The ORIGINAL design was that ONLY merchants could own more the one house (to be used as shops). It has been stated by Devs, on these boards that it is currently a BUG that any player may own more then one.At this point in timeit is too late for the bug to be reversed due to the number of players owning more then one building. New forms of balance must be introduced to replace one of the benefits taken from the Merchant class.
I'd already suggested this and agree completely. I'd love to see shop designs that were usable onlyas part of the merchant tree.
I disagree with a separate shop limit though. You get ten lots. That's plenty. Maybe make small shops take up one space and have about the same space or less as a small house (though hopefully more useful). That way you could place a little satellite shop somewhere.
Another idea I had for shops was open frontage, so people can just walk up and deal with the merchants without going "inside." (Maybe the one lot shops I suggested could be little kiosks.)
I'd really be against having people only allowed one house, but not because of any issue with merchanting. Moving, having done so once, is just an absolute horror. Doing it while having to move everything to storage is just hideous hideous.
Moving shops into the 1km zone I like as an idea, but I would harshly limit it. Probably to master merchants only.
I said nothing about seperate lots. 10 lots per person is fine. If you want a larger operation for shopping that involves networking and business relationships that are kinda like a Franchise.
I agree, only architects should be building ANY buildings.
However, the ability to restrict certain building types dependant on your level of merchant skill would be great. Each levle of merchant up a certain path gives you more shop types.
However, this may all be moot with the new player cities coming. New building types have been promised and we have no idea what changes and shifts may be in store for the merchant class.
