Thread: Merchants Are Sales Specialists
This message is aimed at those who believe that Artisans should not have even one vendor.
Quite frankly, Merchants are sales specialists. That means you're BETTER at it than others. This doesn't mean that you're the only one who can.
Don't like Business 3 people having vendors? See about getting that changed to Master Artisan.
But, want to have it removed entirely from the Artisan tree? Prepare for extreme resistance.
This game is about inter-dependency. But, there's a point where that goes too far.
I think that after much talk on this, the over all feeling was to move it to buss 4 and place limits on it (like 5k max sales item). Not everyone belives that, but many have expressed this to me, and the board.
Art-people still get a vendor, they just do not get one that works as good as a merchants.
So here we go again, with another vendor post
I think that anyone that wants a vendor should be able to have one. An Artisan may need a vendor to sell items that the artisan makes. No harm in that
As for me I am working on my droid engineering and my merchant skills.
I might venture to be a sales specialists one day.

Theres no way the devs can just take the vendor away that everyone has grown so attached on. So I think we should find a compromise.
Move the vendor from Business 3 to Master Artisan. This will make vendor much more rare but still give those who dont want to pursue merchant some options.
What about those that don't want to be a master artisan? Like a sales specialist doesn't need to have everything under master artisan especially if they don't plan to be crafters. You know?

Bumping the artisan vendor up to Master Artisan is a bad idea - might as well make it merchant only at that point (which I know you don't want
). By moving the artisan vendor to business 4 - it requires a bit more experience and skill points which I think is more than reasonable.
Making vendors merchant only really won't solve a thing - everyone will just train novice merchant (and waste even more skill points).
The key here is diversification and enhancement for the largely worthless merchant skill boxes we have now. (and I want bodyguards, dang it!!)
"But thereis a very very large group of people who are upset about people getting vendors at business 3. They see this as too extreme. And their solution is simple: remove the price restriction on the bazaar. "
Kind of a "be careful what you wish for" deal ![]()
In my opinion, the bottom line is that artisan's should have some limited means to sell their wares on their own, if they choose (this coming from a soon to be Master Merchant). The bazaar with it's current limitations provides part of that equation. A single vendor (moved to business 4) provides therest of that equation. If you want more functionality/benefits/tools to sell you have two choices: 1) Train up the merchant tree or 2) contract with an existing merchant to sell your wares.
The fact that the merchant class is largely broken and that there currently aren't many benefits for a Master Merchant compared to a Business 3 artisan is a seperate issue.
As a hybrid Crafter/Merchant I haven't experienced as much of the pain that my fellow pure merchants have experienced with keeping astore stocked. There are definite issues that we need to address to make crafters want to go through a merchant instead of selling themselves. Part of this is increasing theskills that a merchant can bring to the table. The other part (and it is not going to be popoular) is barriers to entry. Currently anyone with buisness 3 can set up a vendor and accumulate experience in the merchant skill tree. Given enough time, anyone can achieve Master Merchant by doing nothing. Many crafters are picking up merchant skills that they otherwise wouldn't think of getting "because it's there". There needs to be some kind of xpgathering mechanismother than time. I'm not sure what that is - I don't like the idea of basing xp on number of sales since this hurts starting merchants and "big ticket" sellers. Whatever the solution, until this is addressed everyone with a business 3 vendor is going to be a "closet merchant" because there is no skill required to advance.
Just my 2 credits . . .
PA has ~100 peeps, offer to host items at 10% ..resulted in "zero" takers ..those whom sell items just pop up their own vendor ..its sufficient, true, can ya blame them ?
Nerf max prices on baazar(even more)/vendors and fixmax pricing dependent on Merchant level.
Until these issues are even close to being fixed ... nerf nothing.
I've had a hard time finding merchants to sell my droids. Most seem to just one or two for personal use and that's about it. I'm going to post again here publicly to find more Bloodfin vendors. We'll see what happens this time.
The key here is diversification and enhancement for the largely worthless merchant skill boxes we have now.
I would agree with that 100%.
Keep in mind that the current situation is massively biased in favor of merchants already. A few hardcores here are arguing about nerfing artisans. The vast majority of merchants don't care.
But thereis a very very large group of people who are upset about people getting vendors at business 3. They see this as too extreme. And their solution is simple: remove the price restriction on the bazaar.
If you open one issue, you will inevitably open the other.
I have lost most of my suppliers to this issue...they sell to me till they get a vendor...then they disapear...poof...I find a new one and it happens again...
I dont mind others selling in my market....but I just would like a better supply chain....since we can not force others to not be Part Time merchant at low levels...we have to live with it as is....I am a master merchant and can stock tons of items...but look at how I use my vendors
1. Weapons vendor - Bugged - Cost Zero -
2. General items - Bugged - cost Zero
3. Vendor names after my shop...no items...cost zero...use him to list my shop on planet map
4. Vendor named "Email Lowar If you need anything" No items just use him for advertizing
5. Vendor named "Fight Night at the Shrub Pub Nine PM EST Saturday" Same as 3 and 4
I use them for advertizing because I have no stuff to sell...now I could hunt down crafters and get stock but I get two outcomes
1. They sell to me and then open there own shop
2. They try to sell to me at retail prices - I can sell at a loss or sell for higher prices
I dont have any answers for this problem...I plan on selling rare items or Smugglar gear to make ends meet. I also have player events for fun, but I lose money...More missions for me![]()
Maybe when we have player citys we can have a greater purpose...for as it stands now...crafters do not need us to sell there stuff...maybe as it should be....I sell more on the bazaar than in my shop ...the last few weeks...I just can not get items to sell
Adapt and overcome...I have had almost every job available in this game...the sweet spot keeps moving..which can be fun
