Thread: State of Merchant XP, Devs Please Help!

I along with many others am attempting to open my force sensitive slot. Unfortunately my first holocron profession was Merchant. At first I didn’t have any problems with this.

You get hourly merchant xp based on the amount of vendors you have. This means if you have 3 vendors you get 3x150 = 450xp. You can also get xp from people paying an admission fee to your house or browsing your vendors both of these actions get you 50xp once per person per 15 minuets. Since I have nothing to sell and I don’t plan on mastering weaponsmith until forced to do so I have no way to attract people to my house.

It gets worse. Since the patch vendors only stayed spawned if someone is in the same room as them forcing them to be there. So this means if I have 4 vendors in my house I won’t get hourly xp unless someone is standing in front of them. Since I don’t run a busy shop with hundreds of daily customers my vendors never log time on the map and I don’t get any xp.

The only solution to this problem is for me to stand in the room with my vendors all the time that the servers are up. Now I can’t even stay online idle because I’ll time out so to solve this I have to run an afk macro which just loops sit; stand;.

To master merchant you need 400,000 xp I’m at merchant 0002 and have 4 vendors placed. To get the rest of the 370,000 xp I will have to stand in my house with my macro for an astounding 411 hours! So that means if I can stay logged on for 20 hours a day it will take 20.6 days to master merchant. I won’t be able to leave my in game house for the next 20.6 days of “game play”.

I’m not bashing the fact that I have to master merchant and I’m not bashing the fact that it will take 20.6 days. I am bashing the fact that I have to stay logged on and in my house for 20.6 days. I’m mad because I can’t play the game and work on other professions instead I get sit in my house.

eeek vendors only give xp if someone is there? that stinks.. when i mastered merhcnat on sunrunner it didn't seem to be that bad b/c i did it over time... now i ahve to do it on ahazi for a holocron... im still not sure what im gonna do...

You got some good points there, it would totally wrong to see this merchant exp as whine, its just a simpel fact it have to be fixed.


It would be nice to see some response from the devs, that they are aware of this problem or something

I still say that they should remove what they did in the last patch and just let the Vendors go up. It would be even more fair to the profession to have most of the XP go off of what you sell. After all, a Merchant IS a salesperson. This crap of standing in the house, and no you do not get 150XP on Shadowfire atleast, is both boring and time-consuming. With what I sell off of my Merchants, if it was even 10% XP for the total cost of what I sell, I'd still have made 4x what I did this week by "standing there"(25k instead of 6k). And charging an access fee is nuts. Wh wants to pay an access fee to shop? How would people feel if every time you went to the mall you had to pay 10.00 to go in every store you went into, even if just browsing? I don't charge access fees and never will.


They need to fix it yes. But fix it in a way that helps Merchants. (ie. sales XP)
