Thread: I know everyone hates this but...(help me out)
I'm venturing into merchant only on the call of a holocron.... but I would like some advice. I know I need to have as many vendors as possible up to get xp.(going up management now)
Anything else?
I don't want to compete with anyone, I just want to master the profession and move on...
thanks for all your input in advance...
Nope no body loves you. ![]()
I made a guide. It's a sticky. Just take the time to read it.
The only way to master in a reasonable amount of time is to get about 7 more ppl that are in the same position as you and this lay down 8 houses each and proceed to run through them all paying a 1c entrance fee.
have fun
it will take about a week if everthing goes well.
and I dont know why all the real merchants get all pissy when people ask for advice on how to lvl to master...I think they need to realize that they are a minority LOL.....sad? maybe. But true.
but more importantly flame soe NOT us!

I just got a mental picture of this and it was funny.
Your walking in the wilderness of {insert-planet-here} when you come accross a group of houses. "Hey, mabe a new player city here." you think and investigate. As you approach you don't see a town hall but notice a lot of people running in an organized route running in and out of the houses.
"Curious", you think.
"Say, what are you guys up too? Are you running some sort of race?" you ask.
"No. We're grinding the Merchant profession."

I'm going to give you a calm, reasoned, politely-expressed response as to why I personally get 'pissy.' This is just my own take on it - I'm not necessarily speaking for me fellow merchants.
- We devote our game time and our skill points to the profession we love best, and we come to the forum to share advice, insights, bug issues, and future hopes with our fellow merchants, not to pass out power-leveling tips to the holo-tourists.
- Merchant profession aside, I weary of the all theholocron-drones regardless what profession-of-the-week he/she might be following. In every RPG in every format I've ever played, the power-levelers, XP-grinders, min-maxers, and hackenslashers always believe they are the majority and the norm; that is SO not the case. SWG is for the socializers and role-players, and while the holo-tourists and power-gamers whine "I've power-leveled to master...now there's no content, WAAAAAA...!!" the rest of us continue to enjoy the atmosphere and bonds of friendship more and more each day.
So, I may agree with you, Kentak, that SOE has created an abysmally stupid path to the FS slot, it's the short-sighted, anti-social, "the goal is everything" power-gamers that obey it that are truly sad.

Here is how I am grinding merchant. My second character is half merchant cause he sells armor. Lots of things have changed since he went up merchant. You will have people get upset at holo grinders alot. I dont understand why because we didnt make the game this way. Sony made this game the way it is. They setup a system to become FS, and the only way to it is grind grind grind.
Some people are happy doing one profession and some want to be a jedi. Dont get mad at people for playing the game how sony made it.
This is what you do. NOTE: The character running in houses has to be someone different than merchant character.
1. Make mineral survey devices until you get up the business tree.
2. Setup your 1 vendor and make sure it keeps 100% condition at all times.
3. Get 10 small naboo houses and set them up in a row.
4. Set a 1 credit 15min access fee to the houses.
5. Run in the houses for 2hr 30min to get your 5000xp to make novice merchant.
6. Go straight up the management tree and add all your vendors to your house. (make sure you do a stand and sit macro by your vendors when your not running in the houses)
7. If your in a pa ask for help running in. Or you can get creative and offer people things to get them to run in.
Thats about it. Its going to take time but you will make it. You get 50xp each time you run in the house and 50xp each time you view 1 vendor. So a run gives you 500xp then 50xp for a vendor view. Your vendors in house will give you 150xp each per hr if they are loaded in the world. (meaning someone has to be next to them).
Thats the best I can think of to grind merchant for holocrons. Its a shame the FS system forces us to do this. Dont get upset with the people doing it. I am sure nobody enjoys it. Its a tough route to FS unlock and I salute anyone who has the will to try it.
Goodluck

How exactly is "Read the guide" getting pissy?
No one on this forum is obligated to assist anyone in grinding merchant xp for any purpose. Draznar has taken the time to compile the wisdom and experience of many merchants on this forum into a post that explains everything you really need to know (Including tips on grinding Merchant) . He pointed out that the information was available if only the poster would take the time to read it. That's it. He made no commentary on the reason the poster needed the information. All he really did was direct them to a resource to get the answers they needed.

You get 5 stars for that post. I have had a hologrinder come to me asking for help. I have given it, explaining how it works. But it annoys me with the hologrinding. I get /tells constantly asking how to speed through merchant from people who want to just get a vendor to become rich "easy like you did" and to hologrind.
It's not the grinders or part time merchants that bother me, it's the way the game is set up requiring this and the mindset of the players finding this method of play acceptable. Sure I'll give help to people, I have a helper flag on afterall. I'm not pissed at the players, they are just dreaming of being a Jedi, I'm pissed at SOE for making such a joke of professions that people can hologrind them over and over.
