Okay, So I am a Novice Droid Engineer and Master Artisan and I have yet to ever open my own shop with a vendor.
I note that on the Master Artisan tree, as do all who have climbed there way up, that we have one part of the ladder that suggests a hiring bonus to merchant.
Now, can I actually open my own shop, and hire a vendor to sell my wares without actually starting the Merchant Tree?
I'm just looking for the bare-bone deal-o to open my own Droid shop and have Vendors there while I am out surveying and placing harvestors.
Thanks all in advance,
-Norre

Merchants get cheaper and more interesting vendors so it may be in your interest to become a merchant if you can afford the skill points

all you need is business 3 to sell your own items. The only features that the merchant profession gives you that are really worth the skill point cost are more vendors and the ability to register your vendors on the planetary map. But, if you place your shop in a good area/town, that isn't totally necessary, and if you only need one vendor, going merchant is fairly pointless.

The vendor you get at Business 3 is functionally equivalent to any vendor you get as a Master Merchant, so if all you need is one vendor, you're already set. All you need is a house to put it in.

At Business 3 you only get one vendor and it's very large and ugly.
At master merchant you can have a total of 6 vendors, but most of them are very large and ugly too.
Either way, they all function the same.
If you don't need more than one vendor or any of the various benefits provided by merchant, you can safely stop at Business 3.
