Thread: Player City Design Announced
This is the stuff that merchant's supposed to open up for us. The downside is it probably means little will get fixed until they're released.
The city also has the ability to manage business related structures like hospitals, cantinas, and shops. Eventually, players will be able to run these businesses themselves and profit from the close proximity of other players. Aspiring merchants will be able to host their wares directly outsidebanks and trendy cantina owners will have easy access to the thirsty masses. Over time, new businesses and business structures will be introduced to the game.

Yeah, I read this announcement the same way. It confirms, at least for me, that the current broken Merchant profession is just a placeholder for the Merchant profession that's going to be needed to run player cities. I think that means we can't expect any fixes or replacements for current non-working skills, though.
but when player cities come out, both us and architechs will become the most sort after and valuable professions.
I am thinking of going for both master merchant and master politician.
i actually think this is bad for merchants...
As soon as the code is loaded, it will probably be 2 days before the PAs have "cities" going....they have already camped the best locations in anticipation...
If you arent in a large PA, you really wont stand a chance
Its going to be like Walmart moving into a small town and killing all the mom & pops
Let me clarify. Not that many PAs will have *Master Merchants*, and I'm guessing that's what you're going to need.

Existing PAs will have few, if any merchants in them. So if they're going to need merchants, expect some invitations from PAs...
lol...really...every house i go to has a vendor or 2...i think everyone in game has a vendor..it just takes Biz 3
I'm guessing that founding a player city isn't gonna be a trivial task... and that trade areas within the city will be expandable - adding multiple marketplaces as time goes on.
Any PA that controls a town (ie. can keep a mayor elected) should have the option of giving its merchants prime locations... but any that purposely keep out competition are going to have a much smaller tax base and end up as backwater holes.

Correct. My PA has over 100 members and I'm the only one going for Master Merchant. Out of the 100, only 4 have novice Merchant, of those who have novice, 2 have stopped there. one has gone to management 2 and stopped, and the other has gone up the efficiency branch purely to get cheaper structure maintenance.
If there are any solo merchants on Eclipse, send me an in game mail if you fancy getting into a good PA (we have 30+ structures built already at our city location, including PA hall, and about a dozen large / medium houses.
