Thread: Why do customers have to retrieve their items from npcs?

If i can understand that you have to retrieve items from bulk machines, i really dont understand why we have to retrieve items from npcs. Those vendors are supposed to wrap the item in a nice present paper and give it to the customer, not tell the customer : "well now go to the stockroom and get your stuff, who is next?"

This really does not makes sense and moreover, this creates confusion. I cant count how many time i bought an item from an npc and forgot to retrieve it, as i naturally thought i would get the item in my inventory directly. Each time i have to go back to the place and find the item back..if the npc was not deleted....i have a medium house stuck in my backroom because i thought i had the deed and the architect got rid of the vendor after we did the transaction.

So basicly the question is...why retrieving items, why not simply placing the item in the customer inventory? Why making it complicated and unconvenient when it could be simple and easy to use?

All retrieving does is add clicks to the total process. It's nothing but a waste of time. If you buy something from a terminal, droid or NPC it should just go into your inventory and end the transaction. There's nothing that annoys me more in the Merchant aspect of the game than going to my vendor to find twenty offered items...have to buy all twenty items one at a time, retrieve the twenty items one at a time and then turn around and relist the twenty items....you guessed it, one at a time! I've now spent fifteen minutes doing a job that should have taken five, I have a mailbox full of "Auction Won" spam and a bad attitude.

On a similar note, how hard would it be to have a boilerplate listing for items that we sell on a regular basis. There's no reason thatwe should have to enter the price and description every timewe put a Small Naboo House Type 1 on avendor. When the vendor sees that we've clicked a Small Naboo House Type 1from inventory, it should just bring up theinformation from the last timeone was listed and import that data....at that point changes to the listing could be made, and the revised listing would be the one to come up the next time.

I'd love that ability Callid. And you know it would save database space too. It would be a lot more efficient for the server to keep track of the fact that a 2 unit stack of Tat Sunburn sells on my vendor for 500 credits, than to append "500 credits" onto each andevery one ofthe 70-odd that I have on there currently.

Actually, it just occurred to me that it would get messy when item stats figure into it. Housing and furniture are no problem since they don't vary, but a weaponsmith for example likely prices his items according to their quality. So it should probably be an optional thing.

We have to go through the two-step purchase-and-pick-up for one simple reason, it avoids inventory overflow problems.

I'd like to see a solution where it goes into your inventory unless your inv is full, in which case it goes into the "Available" slot, but the devs probably just want to keep everything uniform.

Because all they want you to do is click all day. I have clicked so many times I've gone through 3 mouses. Click Wars!!

Probably, because all 'vendors' in the game are the same type of object, programming-wise.

Same reason I'm guessing why the General Crafting Tool has an output hopper.

Vendors probably share the same code as the bazaar even though they are no longer connected into the system. And the bazaar lets you buy anything anywhere, but you have to travel to pick it up. I do it all the time for Thor Steel and Titanium Aluminum, which are the two specialty metals for backpacks. If there's two auctions on Corellia for thoranium steel, I buy before I make the trip and I know it'll be waiting for me.

  1. I think that SWG has a deal with a Mouse comp. They will be getting a kick-back,so they have developed this game to wear out your left-cliker.

  2. NPC are just curvey terminal vendors. All of them work exacly the same way, and I think it is done that way to save onthe codeing. Maybe they should change the button from "retrieve" to "bag" I would also like to see a "bag all" that retrieves all items at once. See number 1

They aren't REAL NPCs obviously. How would they stand in the same place all day long? No food, drink, or bathroom. They must be disney-style animatronic machines. I wonder where the dispensing slot on them is?
