Thread: Going on holiday will probably break my business

We all know the problems, I just need to vent about it - bear with me :-)

So I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks at the weekend and its occured to me what I'm going to have to do before I go...

Why leave my vendors running? I'd only get 7 days use out of them before they took everything off sale (but where-o-where am I to store all that stuff!!!)

If I dont pay up the maintainence I'll lose the vendor _and_ all my stock (even though the maintainence is really low right now theres the risk you guys will 'fix' this inside the 2 weeks and then I'll probably lose my stuff anyway)

If I did pay up the maintainence I'd only get 7 days use from them anyway (see point 1)

While I can get other players to baby sit my house and my installations they cant look after my vendors (which to be fair would partially negate these problems)

Yep. 7 day rollovers, items left in the stockroom vanishing, global ad and ad barking reset every day... all those things make it extremely difficult to go on vacation or to be a (supposedly) casual gamer if you are a merchant. I could survive the advertising not working while I was away, but the 7 day rollover is a killer.

I mean, even if I needed to be gone just 3 or 4 days, who stocks everything on the vendor all at the same time? I put a little on, some more on a few hours later, a big batch of stuff the next day... and 7 days later, multiple waves of rollovers start bombarding me with Auction Unsuccessful... ARGH! What? Every time I craft a new batch, I have to pull ALL and restock to avoid incremental rollovers? Just imagining that makes me ill.

Please, for sanity's sake, do away with the vendor stock rollover.

Yet another very poorly thought out design decision.

I'm starting tothink that SOE's competitors have infiltrated a few people into the SWG design team to sabotage the product.

Sir, it's quite possible that this game is not entirely stable.

>> Oh, crap! When do items disappear from the storeroom? Say it ain't so!

For discussion about the stockroom and items disappearing, see the following threads:

Stockroom -OR- "NOT Stockroom"?
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=merchant&message.id=5248

Items DO Vanish From Stockrooms
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=merchant&message.id=5091

Items Disappearing from Vendor Stockrooms
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Techsupport&message.id=74787

The last one is in the tech support forum and the CSR clearly confirms that items will disappear.

The unsatisfactory part of this, is that such disappearance is STILL not documented anywhere that a non-fourm user could find out about it. It is a travesty that paying customers have to find out the hard way that a stockroom is NOT what it should be by it's name.

Hehe...I'm having the exact same delimma...I leave for two weeks tomorrow.

Might as well put everything up for sale now. At least you might sell stuff over the one week.

But, I understand your delimma. Plus, with the worldmap and add barking broken, that means you will be relying on only repeat customers and the lucky walk-by.

Actually it is worse that you describe.

True, everything on your vendor will go off sale in 7 days (or less if you don't refresh everything).

However, if you are going to be gone for 2 weeks, it will also disappear out of your stockroom and be gone when you return.

You are best off leaving about a week's sales on your vendor, and giving away everything that doesn't fit in your house, bank and inventory. I hope you have a lot of spare time, you will have to make hard decisions about what to keep.

You might be best off buying a small house or three to warehouse it while you are gone.

Enjoy your vacation!

I recently went on a 2 week vacation. Before I went, I filled up my vendors with extra Armor, powerups and Personal Shield generators. I then spent approx 60k on vendor maintenance for the 15 days that I was going to be away.

So I come back 2 weeks later to over 100 emails saying items had not been sold... ok not a big deal... must have been over 200 items on those vendors. I get to my shop expecting to find 100 items in my stockroom. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

So I open a CSR ticket. To ask for help. Only to get the glib answer that its a design feature. Apparently items that dont sell in 7 days are put into the stockroom of your vendor, but get this (its a biggie!) they are AUTOMATICALLY DELETED AFTER 72 HOURS!!

Apparently to stop people using their vendors for extra storage. Ok I understand this 21 days maybe, or 14 days at a push, but 72 hours is a joke.

I lost about 150k worth of stock.

So much for casual gamers being merchants, go on a 2 week vacation, hell, 10 day vacation and lose everything on your vendor. Afterall how many people actually take 2 week vacations ?

Perhaps some sort of check to see if you've been in game should be applied before deleting the items... buyt as we know SWG is cursed with a badly designed database, and SOE take every opportunity to wipe anyitems they can.

I lost 300,000 credits worth of weapons this way. I bought them wholesale and was doling them out one or two at a time. Came back a week later to restock and they were gone... Oh well.

DOCUMENT THIS 'BUG' DEV'S!

I would like an official message from a dev about what the time is or the game manual updated.

Ashrid,

List what you are selling, what you feel are 'decent' wholesale prices, and the wp to your shop. Iam looking foritems to place on my vendors.
