Thread: Something the Devs MISSED
ok, i just noticed that my vendor's maintenance jumped from 1 cr/hr to 200 cr/hr. at first i thought this was a bug then i read the post that the devs were going to increase cost on vendors.
this has REALLY pissed me off, and here is why.
the devs don't seem to understand human behavior. by increasing my cost on maintenance... all that does is make me want raise my prices to others. it doesn't help to take money out of the economy, it just widens the gap between the rich and the poor, and hurts the middle class and poor people in the game. the rich will always be rich, there is no stopping that. you can't stop people from hording their money!!!
the devs are trying to create a 'sink' to help take money out of the economy... and i ask WHY? by increasing maintenance cost on my vendor... and others... you HURT the small time merchants and EVERY customer in the game. people will just RAISE their prices.
for pete's sake, if you want to get money out of the economy, give us something fun to spend the money on that has no return in the investment. by taxing our incomes in this manner you are just hurting us, and ruining the game.
and one more thing... if you think this $$ amount of items on vendor / 10000 = maintenance per 45 minutes is a good idea... you're DEAD WRONG. people will just stop stocking items on their vendors to get around the mainentance hikes. they will wait for people to email orders to them and THEN stock the item for the person. or, people will just stop using vendors all together.
skedoozy... you see my point exactly! people has lost vendors these first couple of days of the patch because NOTHING was said to us in the patch notes about increased vendor prices.
yes, we DID get a warning from the devs, but they NEVER said when it was going to happen! i know a guy that lost over 2million in goods because his vendor died becuase of this new maintenance crap. and what will soe do? NOT A **edit** THING
and you wonder why our merchant correspondent quit?!
guys I have not logged on (I am scared to here as of late)
Is this true that the fee has been jumped. If so I am going to go make a stink on the core boards, I just want more info first.

My NPC vendors have not changed. The are all still at 0.
I can't speak to the non NPC vendors because I don't have any.
Here is the reasoning I heard on the increase of vendor maintnence:
Most people with vendors are artisans using the business 3 granted vendor, andthey have no efficiency training. Or other players are people who have not gone hardcore into merchant like us. Now vendor maintnence is based on the average price of the items you are selling. Yes, SOE wants better money sinks, but from what I heard, SOE would like to also nerf the economy a little. People are getting too rich, and player crafted items are costing too much money. So the first obvious way to affect this is to make it mroe expensive for "non-merchants" to sell thier items. By making vendors more expensive, they are not only providing a better money sink, but because the way vendor maintnence is calculated, hope that this will help drive people's prices lower. If you sold one item on a vendor, say a CDEF gun, and you were selling it for 10k, and the maintnece on your vendor got bumped up to 200 credits and hour, most crafters would ideally lower the price of the gun to 5k to reduce the maintnence down to 100 credits an hour. This was just the idea that was proposed to me. It's supposed to help de-inflate the economy.

As of last night (Thursday the 9th),I saw NO CHANGE in my NPC vendor rate. That is with 6 vendors spread over a couple of shops.
Now they did change the power consumption rate of factories and harvestors dispite their denials. But that is not a merchant issue ![]()
Marqie, all my NPC vendors have not changed their maintenance rates.
I cannot speak to other styles of vendors, as I don't use them.
songe, That is normal. It is showing in the window as Zero, but in fact it is more likle 0.87 or something like that, given that EVEYTHING in this game is based on whole numbers, with NO rounding, it shows as 0.
Okay, here is the deal.
Prior to the patch I had 5 Vendors up. 2 NPC's,1 Droid(3P0), and 2 Terminals.
ALL OF THEM WERE AT THE RATE OF 0.87(or whatever it is) PER HOUR!
After the patch I lost the 2 Terminal vendorsand I checked the Droid and it was at 202c per hour. If I only had 1 item on the droid vendor it was still 202credits per hour. It had NOTHING to do with the price of things on the vendor.
NPC's are still at under 1cperhour, everything else is borked, and it was not this way pre-patch.
WTS!?!?!
One of my vendors was destroyed because of this. Monday it was less than 1c per hour and before I even knew the crap was raised it destroyed itself!! WTHEHELL!?!? How the sh1t did this get in to the patch without a word of notice?!!?
It now cost over 5000 a day to run my vendor and I am a master merchant. Boy, I sure hope I sell stuff.
This is disgusting. Why the hell would anyone want to have a merchant that cost 5000credits a day?! I havent even made 150,000 credits in this last month but thats what its going to cost me for one vendor now?!
