Thread: my seven merchant ideas/wish list

I have a few suggestions for the merchant class. Take them...leave them...add to them....do what you want. but here is my wish list. (I have other merchant ideas that I am leaving out as I think they are getting added soon)...

1. as I have mentioned before I would very much like to see person/faction/pa discount options. With the right interface you could write some very nice discount rules.

2. the merchant class should have the 3k price limit lifted on the bazaar! this would make the bazaar useful and would give the merchant class an extra area to push their goods.

3. empty vendors should do TWO things. One they should UNREGISTER off the planetary map and two they should have a icon or empty tag above them. I am tired of people having empty vendors to get merchant xp and or needing a deed and running to a place advertising deeds on the planetary map only to find they are sold out.

4. we need search options. players should be able to search for something in the bazaar and on the planet vendors and then create a waypoint to that item.

5. we need a designated /auction emote/speech so that when we are at a starport advertising people that DON'T want to see the advertising can filter that channel out. I need to advertise but I also don't want to force my advertising on someone that doesn't want to see it!

6. when creating vendors It would be cool if the interface was more like the create your starting player interface. I HATE spending an hour looking for that one vendor that looks perfect. I have very strict standards on what my vendor should look like and it takes forever to find the perfect one.

7. signs should be rotatable. right now some of the two sided signs don't look right and are hard to see based on how your house/shop is facing.

I hope this gets looked at! thanks and have a great day!

I mostly agree with option 3. Empty vendors should really come off of the planetary map so that customers don't make a long trip for nothing. They won't be coming back after having tha experience.

Bazaar auctions and NPC city advertising are issues that may not be so important once player cities are established. It's hard to say how that will shake up the economy and consumer habits.

I would not be for a filterable channel for advertising. Advertising is more effective if it's in your face; even if it's annoying to some.

My thoughts on /auction are that it would show up as regular text...in everybody's face...it would be like /shout...but this gives the people who don't care what we are selling the option to go in and filter out our advertising... the person that filters you out is someone that is not wanting to buy in the first place. so getting your message in their face only...makes them mad which could leed to them bad mouthing you and or /reporting you for spamming... that is where I was coming from with /auction

Discounts would be great.
As well as Admin Rights for vendors.

2. the merchant class should have the 3k price limit lifted on the bazaar! this would make the bazaar useful and would give the merchant class an extra area to push their goods.

I've always been against changing the bazaar. It differentiates the real merchants from everyone else and promotes shop creation. I can see a whole class of merchants that only dabble to raise the limit.

HOWEVER, if this skill is granted to MASTERS it would be a great incentive and add some much needed benefits for the profession.

I would like to see other fixes and changes implementedfirst, like useable categories on the bazaar, because that would make this change ultimately more useful.

3. empty vendors should.....UNREGISTER off the planetary map and.....they should have a icon or empty tag above them.

I would hate having to reregister my vendors, and not knowing I had been unregistered, but I think both these changes would be good for the profession.

4. we need search options. players should be able to search for something in the bazaar and on the planet vendors and then create a waypoint to that item.

I agree the bazaar and vendors need a search option.

But again, I'm not sure about adding all the thoushands of vendor items to the bazaar listing. It's already hard enough to sell stuff with all these undercutting dabblers.

I've seen so many people selling their wares below market value. It would be hard to compete with junk prices posted to the public.

I think it could destroymerchant markets.

5. we need a designated /auction emote/speech so that.....people that DON'T want to see the advertising can filter that channel out.

I agree that a /sell (I hate auction, I'm not auctioning, I'm selling) emote would be cool, but I disagree that it should be filtered.

I know /yell can be annoying, and some people can be real idiots, but most people will just turn off /sell, and then everyone will just go back to /yell anyway.

Many time you don't know that you need or want something until someone actually shoves it in your face - "Hey, you know, I do want a droid".....

6. when creating vendors It would be cool if the interface was more like the create your starting player interface.

YES! I hate screwing around trying to get a decent looking vendor without some pot bellied T'willek chick with fuscia colored camo pants popping up.

Maybe as master, we can just make the vendor we like without messing around.

7. signs should be rotatable. right now some of the two sided signs don't look right and are hard to see based on how your house/shop is facing.

I would like to PLACE my sign where I want it within a certain distance of my shop. Placement, rotation and moving would be great.

I didn't realize you could rotate while placing structures and my front door is facing a cliff where no one can see my sign.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

I'd be most appreciative if vendors had some kind of delivery option - so the person that ordered an item could actually stand a chance of having it there to pickup. I have a vendor in my basement whose sole purpose in life is to deliver ordered items - usually works fine, long as no one decides to browse down there.

Good post, maybe moving items around should be a mission, but insted of the mission runner getting the item itself, they get a worthless token, and when that token is turned into where ever, the database moves the item to that vendor.

It would just add a level to the game play, it would also directly move money in the eco, because the rewards would be paidby players. (It would be a whole system, this is just a thought)

YES ON 3!! Empty vendors suck!

When is that 30 day vendor listing patch going gold? Restocking my vendors 200+items ever week sucks.

Well I think that we need to add one more idea to all of this. Is there a way to allow other players to post items up on a vendor that doesn't belong to them .Right now you can offer something to a vendor but that means that I have to buy it from the player. Maybe the Master merchants can have the ability to list item directly for a set number of players (10 or 20) and we can set a fee for it use (to pay for the vendor). This way I dont have to buy from all my suppliers and will be able to provide a service (like a mall). right now there isnt much differents between a Master merchant and a artisian with business tree. This is important to me because I dont sell any products that Ive made. I sell and drive sales for other player and thier products. This is the part of the game that I enjoy and I hope that Sony will give me the tools to provide this service for others (at a price :-) )
