Merchant experience is not a function of sales, but a function of time.

  • You get 150 xp per vendorevery hour on the hour provided the vendor existed for the full hour. You get no experience if the vendor is not loaded and online at the time of the exp check. Someone must be in your shop at the time you get experience.

  • You get 50 xp for every person who opens your vendor and selects "Refresh." This can be done every 10 minutes.

  • You get 50 xp every time someone pays an entry fee to your house. The minimum time you must set the entry fee timer is 15 minutes.

  • No one can explain any other means of getting experience.

If you are into grinding, it seems like the fastest way togrind is this (a compiled version of all different methods described in different threadson the front page of this forum):

  1. Set up ten houses in a row, numbered 1-10. Charge 1 credit for 15 minutes access.

  2. In #10 put all your vendors (up to 6)

  3. Make 500 something cheaps (nice power-ups or spices or stims perhaps).

  4. Advertise something cheaps for 10 credits if they enter all 10 houses and"Refresh" all 3-6 vendors. Set no limit to the number a person can earn. Can only earn one every 15 minutes.

  5. Have someone else sit in house #10, making sure all vendors stay loaded. Watch the experience guage and credits. When credits goes up 10 and experience goes up 550-800, the player has earned that freebie.

  6. You sit by the trainer, paying for skill-ups. Be sure to get more vendors first.

  7. 500 x 800 experience = 400k = Master Merchant. You will also get up to 900 exp per hour from the vendors.

I'd be interested to see if anyone can pull this off in a day. Not me, I have one house and no lots. Oh, and I already did the grind the hard way. Took 3 months. This process looks like it could take a laggy 5 hours to complete.

What kind of house take up only one lot? All of my small ones take up 2 lots, I use generic and tatooine small houses.

No. They nerfed merchant experience with the patch.

I believe that they used the harvester model for vendors, thus merchant only exist when there is someone to see them. Experience over time was attached to the vendor being there, thus you nolonger get experience overtime if none is in the shop. This will make it a little tougher on our holo grinders, but will benefit give more worth to those that actually have business. Most of use took a while (a month or so) to make master. Over all I think this is one of the easiest professions for the casual gamer to get experience.

I made an error in step #2: You cannotget the 50 vendor browsing exp on morethan one vendor per house. What I posted was what did not work. You must putone vendor in each of six houses (per other Merchants). This will pretty much ruin your odds to keep them all loaded for the hourly bonus, but you will still gain exp faster by grinding.

Ok, some clarification for the grinders, I hope:

"Something cheap" is my way of saying make something worthwhile to bribe people to help you grind.

4-5, 7) To get the most out ofone customer's visit, you need each person to pay the entry fee for each house (10x 50 exp) and look in each vendor (up to 6 x 50 exp). Maximum per visit you will get 800 experience and you need 400k experience to get to master. Thats 500 visits. Anyone helping you grind can pay the entry fee every 15 minutes and can browse the vendors every 10 minutes.

You also get 150 per vendor that is loaded when the magic vendor exp moment occurs every hour. If you are grinding, this amount is unnoticed.

6) You do not need to be anywhere near the houses to gain the experience, so you can sit by the trainer while you gain experience. You do want someone to pass out the bribes though. This person can also gain experience for you.

OK, it's not the most exciting of grinding plans and reeks vaguely of Politician, but it's better than sitting in a house 24/7 for 2 months.
