For all intents and purposes, I am a newb.
I am wanting to sell something for a lot of credits (to me anyway). The guy that has offered to buy them wants me to drop them off at his vendor - he can't seem to meet me in game.
Is this safe? I don't know this guy at all - and like I said, I'm a newb, and he knows it. I would prefer to meet face to face for the trade, but he can't seem to do it (alarm mode sounds). Maybe I'm just paranoid.

go to vendor see if it is in an actual shop, if it has items up for sell, if it is/does you should not have a problem offering to this vendor
be sure you email him and state which vendor it is on, we do not get notified of offers thru game
if he rejects it, you can go claim it, if it is not purchsed say within 3 days, you can go claim it
the only way you will lose the item is if they destroy the vendor {which is a very rare occurance of greifing}
just pay attention to time, do not let it sit and rot it will poof by game mechanics
and above all, if you truely do not want to set it for offer, don't, it is still your item to do with as you please.

Here's pretty much everything that can go wrong:
1) You put it up for sale, and he doesn't buy it. You can always go back and retract the sale and retrieve the item, but the sale itself has an expiration (I'm not sure if it's the 7 day limit of a bazaar sale or a 30 day limit of a vendor sale). After the sale expires, it'll be in the "available items" tab for a limited amount of time (again, could be 7 days or 30), and then it'll get deleted by the game. You are both out an item, and you're out the credits.
Make a note of the waypoint / name of the vendor you offer it to. I've seen some poor souls who offered to a vendor, wanted it back (or the sale expired), and they couldn't find it again.
2) You put it up for sale and the other player (either deliberately or accidentally) deletes the vendor. This also deletes all items on the vendor, including your offer. You are both out an item, and you're out the credits.
If done deliberately, this isn't scamming you out of the item (since they don't get it either) but does suck. Personally, I think it's pretty rare, but I may have an overly optimistic opinion.
3) You put the item up for sale and mistype the price (100000 instead of 1000000 for example). They buy it and refuse to pay you the "actual" amount.
Well, you did put it up for that price, so it's perfectly fair for them to buy it. Double check the price information when you offer it, and if you do happen to get it wrong, there's nothing wrong with canceling the offer and re-offering it for the right price.
Vendor drop-offs are actually fairly common. People may have different play schedules, may be away from the game for a few days, etc. I've handled quite a few purchases/sales on the forums (which I admit I browse from work), then use vendors as an in-between when I can finally get on in the evening.
As a last note: is it a BARC speeder? That's really the only item I can think of a newbie might have worth a lot of credits. Make sure you're getting a fair price. The eclipse trade boards have them selling for 2-4 million.

Well, I went solely from the first fewtheads I saw on the trade forum with an actual sale (ignoring any with a min that was never bid). It's entirely possible that there are people selling for higher in-game.
I don't have one, and I'm not interested, so I haven't kept on eye on what they're going for (let alone on servers I don't have a character at). Maybe Eclipse had a higher influx of Total Experience players. /shrug

Nope, not a BARC speeder. I don't even have one of those. Like I said, for all intents and purposes I'm a newb. We bought the game and played at launch for a bit. Then when SWG became part of the All Access pass we started playing again.Game is totally different than what it was back then - so relearning the ropes so speak. So I had some veteran rewards - I sold those for some funds.
