Thread: Business III total ability?

I assume this question has been asked multiple times, and I did spend time searching for it with no success.

I become a merchant 3040, and place two NPC vendors with clothes and bark abilities. I also register my vendor in the planetary campaign.

Now if I dropp two Business IV only maintaing 2 vendors and a item limit <= 250, do I lose anything?

Probably not though I would consider the barking and the global advertising a bug and an exploit.

Exploit? I can'ttake the devs sreiouly if they did call this an exploit.Versions of this have been done since beta. If they devs thought this was an exploit they could have fixed this easily over the last few years.

The plantarymap ability clearly states register not maintain, which means it is intended to be a one time ability. The barking skill is worded as training a vendor to speak something specific. Once the vendor is trained and the trainer no longer knows how to train it should not matter.

It could be argued that players are allowed to use merchant abilities without being merchant. On the other hand they cannot train vendors a new "bark" and they cannot make any changes to their vendor registration. These are a merchants ability. A parallel to this is the ability to place a theater or med center. Once a that player drops the ability to place those structures it remains.

I'm not trying to be hostile, and thanks for responding.

Its explotative to use merchant skills that are ongoing without having the skill. I don't care who thinks otherwise. It just is. They fixed one of these but the global advertising and the adbarking can still be used after you no longer have the skill to use them.

Do you believe that Cantina should blow up if the person who placed it and decorated it relinquishes all entertaining abilities? How is this any different?

First of all a cantina is a material possession that one pays for. Destroying it wouldn't be the same at all as removing registraion and stopping your vendor from barking. But if you want to know my feelings I think there should be a severe maintenance penalty for operating a cantina without the skills required for it.

My opinion is that merchant skills should only operate on an ongoing basis if you still have the skill. I concede that once you have hired a vendor and dressed it you should be able to keep it. However ongoing benefits like Advertising should not be given away to people who don't keep the skills. It gives you an advantage over players who keep the skill. You are able to retain the benefits while spending those skills on something else. I don't want to discuss the semantics of the skill names or their tool tiptext or the intent of the devs or anything else. My opinion has been formed after more than a year of discussion on the subject and isn't likely to be changed. The merchant profession has precious few advantages as it is. The practice of using those skills wthout keeping the boxes they are granted makes it even worse.

I actually do agree with that. I think the ability to retain the vendors and their barks should remain after dropping merchant. Also I think being able to keep the location registered is dumb if allowed. I do hope they fix that, or add a much higher fee for not having the skill.

You can drop them, but as soon as you do you will be unable to put anything else on the vendors. You will get a message saying something like "You have more vendors than you can manage, please delete one" or something like that.

As long as you maintain skills enough for the number of vendors you have and the number of items you have listed there is no change. If you exceed either then you are unable to place new items up for sale until you either raise your skills or get the vendor or item count back under the limit you currently have skills for.
