Ok this is driving me crazzzzzzy, I've read the merchant giude/faq sticky on the use of hex colours and @1 syntax but i can't for the life of me work out how to correctly apply them. I want a sign with three lines of text.. with a different colour for each line. Can someone pls post an example of what this would look like... save my sanity

OK, we need to sticky this so we quit answering it.

You have to go into a text program like Wordpad. Type it out, and then copy it and paste it on the sign.

Now I know the next question is 'how do you paste?'. Listen. Go into Options and under keymaps. Look around. You will find options for copy, cut, and paste. Change it to whatever you want, but most people use CTRL-SHFT-C for copy for example.

(CTRL-SHFT-C's this thread so he can easily CTRL-SHFT-V it tomorrow when someone asks)

IIRC:

\#FF0000\This line is red text
\#00FF00\This line is green text
\#0000FF\This line is blue text

I think thats right, but as I'm at work right now I can't check..

Oh yeah, the @ stuff, as I read it (and I havn't tried tbh) it works like this:

\#FF0000\This is a\@02red line.

Would look like:

This is a red line.

Note the 2 spaces between "a" and "red" where the original line didn't have any spaces.

Except of course the forum changes multiple spaces into one, sigh....

I am able to get three lines of text on my notepad

Syri's Fine Melee Weapons

BOWCASTERS

Pistols

But this won't translate onto the sign. Character limit? Why do I see other signs more lengthy than mine??????

Ok, well instead of creating a new thread to ask a question about signs, I figured I might as well just bump a recent one

Well I have No problems creating signs with different colours and on multiple rows...

My problem is creating signs with more than 128 characters...

128 Characters is MORE than enough for me and should be for everyone to avoid signs getting abused...

However my problem is that I wanted a fancy looking sign with each letter being a different colour... and the '\#0000FF\' takes up 9 characters each leaving me with a sign which only displays about 12 characters...

If anyone could help me out with this I would appreciate it, thanks...

I use the same technique for naming my harvesters - free advertising

Open Notepad or Wordpad (or whatever text editor you're comfortable with)

Create a new plain vanilla text file on your Desktop and name it something appropriate - mine's "SWG_Harv.txt"

Enter each line as you want it to appear, including any color changes at the beginning of each line.

Be sure to include a normal Carriage Return between each line - do NOT try to use spaces!

For harvesters, I always close the last line with \#FFFFFF to reset back to white text; otherwise when I pay maintenance the system message stays in the last color I used.

Now, be sure you've mapped a key to the "Edit/Paste" command - typically this will be Control + Shift + V

When you need to set the name of ANY structure - your house, tent, harvester, factory, whatever, task-swap out of SWG (I use the Windows key to open my Start menu then minimize everything)open your name template file, select all of the text (Control + A usually) and Copy it (Control + C), then use the hotkey in SWG to Paste it in. You will only see the last line of text in the name box, that's normal.

FWIW, I use a 4-line sign on my structures, as such:

House of Sa'ab
\#FF0000Smuggling Supplies
\#00FF00Liberation City, Corellia
and Asylum, Tatooine\#FFFFFF

Which translates to a sign/harvester/factory display name of:

House of Sa'ab
Smuggling Supplies
Liberation City, Corellia
and Asylum, Tatooine

Using colors: Use \#RRGGBB where RR, GG, and BB are Hexadecimal values between 00 (no color) and FF (full color) each of Red, Green and Blue. See the various stickies for color examples, or use \#FF0000 for Red, \#00FF00 for Greeen, \#0000FF for Blue, \#FFFFFF for White, \#000000 for black, and any equal values for R/G/B for differing shades of grey.

Is wordpad necesary? will the in game /notepad not work for writing your signs and pasting them in?

yes, the in game /note pad will work. I find it easiest to leave three spaces at the start of the first line as for some reasong highlighting and copying from the /note is almost a precise science. I also insert a carriage return at the end so when i copy i highlight from three space before the first word to one line after the last.

Yeah i figure there is an easier way to do it, but i say stick with your strengths and mine seems to be making simple things complex

Do this first

Open Microsoft Notepad and type in the design you want

\#FFFF00\*******************

\#FFFF00\HELLO WORLD

\#FFFF00\*******************

Copy that and go into SWG and type /notepad

Paste that into the notepad of SWG

Copy that then paste that into the sign name.

Why do it this way?

1) The /notepad you can not see the \#Blahblahblah\ color tags

2) When copy and paste from Microsoft Notepad to SWG sign name, you can't do multiple layer cleanly
