I've been fiddling with a vendor, and then scanning/searching this forum for a bit, and haven't yet found an answer. I had assumed vendors (your own, not a bazaar terminal) had an auction function, but can't seem to find any sign of it. Is there auction functionality in vendors you place in your own shops (not bazaar terminals)? Thanks.

There isn't one. I don't remember why. I'll ask though it doesn't come up all that often.

Actually, auctions on private vendors (with no price limits) make more sense than the auction function on the bazaar.

Does anyone actually use auctions on the bazaar to good effect (other than keeping an ad up for the full week)? They seem to fall into a few catagories:

  1. Mistakes (doesn't look like it was really intended as an auction, bid priceshowing isfair)

  2. Newbie-ness (bid price very low. Most would never get bid on again.)

  3. Dumped-below-cost (bid price at maximum already on items that are obviously worth more like houses, vehicles, or good pets. I assume someone got there first, or that they are really ads)

Now catagory 1 might be real auctions in progress rather than mistakes, but somehow I doubt it.

I used to take a lot of resource packages for 2cr or a little more if the starting price was more than 1.I used to get stuff very cheap by bidding on these, but decided I was taking advantage of newbies. It seemed rare that anyone would bother to bid on them which makes sense because of the delay in delivery. I will still bid on underpriced items that start above 12, because it might be a real merchant trying to find a price.

I ask because it would offer a good way to price resources, and my non-merchant alt has plenty for sale and would like the best price. Putting an initial pack, or several,up for auction might give better prices if there were any buyers willing to wait a few days for the auction to complete. He has capital now, instead of living hand-to-mouth, and can wait for the return.

But that requires buyers who are willing to wait, and maybe even bid more than once if overbid, and I am not convinced that any exist. I might try one package of 100tonight, and put a good ad offering delivery of more in the description, on a resource that may be worth 10per or more to the right buyer. I doubt it will sell.

I'd really wanted to use a vendor rather than the trade forums (build some merchant xp while auctioning off some rares/loots/etc).. Ah well, thanks for the info.
