Thanks to NJ62, our lovely Tailor correspondant, I have become aware that on TC right now when an item expires from the stockroom you get an email that looks like:
"Because you failed to pick it up in time, the "Sidebuttoned Shirt (gray) -MAC-" that you were auctioning has expired."
I'm going to follow up next week and try to get more details about this email. At first glance it looks rather pointless since at the point you get it the item has aleady been deleted. I would MUCH rather get an email warning me it was about to expire. I'll let you know what if anything I find out.
If any of you have TC characters and have seen this email and have further details please share your experiences.

Please be aware that the item had been in the stockroom for approximately 7 days when it vanished with that email. There is no 30 day grace period.

I thought the stockroom ( I wish they would change that name, cause its NOT what it implies ) always had a 7-day grace? 30 day is for things listed for purchase. Once soemthing hits the stockroom, either through un-listing or buying an offer, or removing something for sale, etc... that the item had to be moved or retrieved in 7 days? Right?

I'm not sure how it was supposed to work, and how it actually was working. I am pretty sure, though, that it is working as intended now (at least on TC).

Exactly - look up "stockroom" in any dictionary and you won't see "a place where stuff disappears if not picked up"
You know what would at least LET people know their items will disappear? Add a sentence to the auction unsuccessful messages:
"This item will be destroyed in 7 days if not picked up or relisted."

fwiw I've made that suggestion a couple of times now.

Wouldn't it be more helpful to get the email, say, a day or two before the item actually vanishes?

If anything it should be like the structure emails the owner gets when they've hit a certain level of structural integrity.
