Why do these proposed merchant nerfs need to take place? There is no reason. The database is getting lower and lower in size everyday,
Below is some ways the database is getting smaller:
RECURSIVE MACROES ARE GOING AWAY PT 1
RECURSIVE MACROES ARE GOING AWAY PT 2
RECURSIVE MACROES ARE GOING AWAY PT 1
RECURSIVE MACROES ARE GOING AWAY PT 2
Why will removing recursive macros lower the database? Because people will not have to store incredibly long macros, hence taking most of the recursive ones away.
CHARACTER PURGE
CHARACTER PURGE
Why will a Character Purge help out the database? Because i read in a magazine that there were 500000 copies of SWG sold and 120000 active accounts, this means that the database will be cut into nearly 1/5th.
How else will the database be lowered? Simple. In publish 10 the removal of empty vendors and people's vendors that do not have the skill will lower the amount of vendors by 80% (that's a guess, but that's how many vendors i've visited that are empty)
What is being added that will increase the database? A few of the things that are going to increase the database are:
Loot Kits
RaceTracks
The new jedi quest
A few combat changes
The adding to the database is much weaker then the lowering of the database. Why are you doing this devs?

WRONG - Macro's are stored on the client machine.

Since SOE hasn't released the number of subscribers I don't believe any 'read in a magazine' sources.

We all know they are in a panic about their database and are taking many steps to clean it out. They are the first major MMORPG to actualy delete characters. I recieved a post card from another MMORPG asking me to come back anf try it out again for free and I gave up that character almost 2 years ago.
In any case macros are stored on the local machine.

True.
All client information (macros, settings, aliases, etc) are stored on the client machine.
Your friends list is stored server-side, though.
Obviously more people need fewer friends.
I don't believe those numbers either.
I'm prone to believe the 500k copies of the game sold, but any guess about currently active subscriptions is just that... a guess.
I would bet that if the merchant change goes forward in its current form, however, that this game wouldexperience a mass cancellation the likes of which has never been seen before.

You'd think this would be an eye opener to stop trying to revamp what works fine and start fixing bugs and problems that have been issues since beta.
