Get rid of the merchant profession all together.
Have the number of vendors scattered throughout the Master Crafting profession
Say 4 each profession and at200 items per.
200 makes sense since thats 2pages of items per vendor.
This way if you master more than one Crafting profession you get more vendors to sell you goods on.
If no one wants to be a "Merchant", Set up business partners, find deals and then mark it up then why make us waste skill points on it?

I have ben master merchant and master crafters in the past year... I have always had at least some merchant skills when I have sold things.... what about the resource vendors? Or loot vendors? those players would have to then take up a crafting proffession in order to run a non-crafting business.

True.
Maybe every novice of an elite profession can get a vendor and any one where you can craftitems get more?
This way a TKM/Ranger/Novice BH would be able to have 3 vendors Hides/Resources/Loot perhaps?
Each would be connected to the novice skill in someway.
But if you gave up that prof your vendor would become disable and you could only remove items from it.
Artisian Tree wouldn't change so novice crafters could still get a vendor before you get into the elite profession.

yep that works for me juts get rid of merchant and give every toon 40 vendors to play with with a max item count of 1 million, no expiry date on auctions. Oh and give every toon 500 lots. with 100 free harvestors. And make it so that arcitects can craft shops with vendors already in them. ( fully stocked an extra.)
just a thought.

I would be fine with the merchant profession being absorbed by other professions.

Remove the merchant profession and put all the skills in the business tree of artisans.
