Why is SOE's vendor"fix" to force vendor limitsand make us deal with less? This is the only subscription I pay for where, every month, I get LESS FOR MY MONEY.
The ball should be placed back in SOE's court. This looks to me like purely a resource/database issue. And instead of making us deal with less, they should spend some of our hard-earned money on upgrading their servers.
There is no justifiable reason to do this more than 1 year into this game. It stinks of cost-cutting instead of investing in your client base.

After reading through many of the merchant nerf commentsand posting comments, I really feel that the devs have simply given up on "fixing" the database issues, so they can concentrate on future projects. It's all about making money for SOE, "wasting" time improving something that will not increase revenue is not a good business decision for SOE. I'm sure there has been pressure from the SOE brass to get the devs off of working on SWG and getting JTL ready for roll out.
This even becomes more apparent after the TH post about the GREAT CHARACTER WIPE in October and now this merchant patch. I feel like I'm sounding likea broken record, but this patch is a feeble attempt to address the issue of their poorly coded and buggy database. There have been problems with anything related to items, bazaar, merchants, vendors, inventory....you name it, since the onset of this game. After a year of tinkering and patching, I think they have given up (or have been told to give up by SOE). I think this is the only logical explanation for why measures are being taken to reduce the database size, along with making room for new players when JTL launches.
They know their lousy database can't handle the load it has currently, and will simply implode when JTL goes live if they don't reduce the size of it very very soon!
Maybe this will all be fixed when SWG2 or something is developed? Then again...maybe it won't!

PC economy and crafting (therefore distribution) is the foundation of the game. Jerk out the foundation of a building - it collapses.
MMOs are all about retention - retention pays the bills. What good are spaceships if there is no one left to make them - or fly them?

/agree whole heartedly
It seems I spend a lot of RL money on this game (2 accounts) and am getting less for that money..
WoW is starting to look a lot better at this point.
Ahh the drama - Don't we get enough in RL?

I agree!
The developers are searching for a solution for a problem they see on a daily basis but we can’t perceive. The fact they are willing to test the vendor limit seems to indicate they are gravely concerned over their item database. They are taking a very standard approach to fix the problem. It’s cheaper to lower the expectations of the customer than to develop a technical solution.
Quite possibly the SWG management team is unaware of how detrimental a change this is to the enjoyment of many of its players. The whole crafter level player base will be crippled by the item limit. Each individual merchant will experience a dramatic change in game play that will cause many of us to potentially leave the game.
The solution as we all know is not to re-educate us players, or restrict our current operations but to develop a better technical solution! Additional programming or improved hardware will clearly fix the problem they perceive without impacting the way we enjoy the game.
Right now their cost to solution estimate is that it’s cheaper to ‘nerf’ the situation. As a business they really do want to find the ideal solution for their customers and operation. They may not comprehend how many key players, the population doing all the work to create content and enjoyment, will leave.
It’s fine to suggest additional quick fixes; they might receive those more readily. Such as limits on game created items that give way to loot venders vs. player made business vendors. Limits on items based on skill level are not a terrible idea but they are still not ideal solutions.
I don’t think they will change there operation method unless we send a clear message. The one I need them to hear from me is pretty simple. If they publish these proposed limits, I will no longer be interested in playing SWG. If enough people send this message, and mean it, then we might be able to see other solutions from the SWG team. Solutions that don’t involve quick fixes and attempts to manage our game play.

There to busy using our money to fun there new baby EQ2.
we pay 15 per account each month most on line are 10.00
not only do we pay higher. we get treated very badly.
well unless we are jedi.
They sent over a lot of there key people to work on eq2 and rumors are the ones doing starwars now have no clue about the coding they used and thats why everything is in hot fixes or patches. thats a rumor i heard.
now for them to increase servers they will have to spend money on us.
on a game they predicted would not do well and was a filler to hold ones till eq2 came out.
they got a shock with the amount of customers.
here is another rumor i heard the servers we have are the old servers. we were told when the game was being launched that we would be playing on brand new servers.
so for 15.00 per month we get nerfed, broken missions, professions that cant do what there supose to do ect ect.
and now there crapping on there pay checks again by nerfing venders.
what if we said ok the going rate for a game on line is 10 were cutting the monthly payment to 10
they would freak out.
but hey that might get there attion if enough of us got together and did it.
i need data base in my bank account so im nerfing your monthly fee.

/agree. **edit**ing cough up the cash for better servers allready. SOE's been blaming everything on bad databases since the get go. If the servers are what's hindering you in making a great game then GET BETTER SERVERS!!!

i will add that with the introduction of AMD Opteron processors this year, servers built on it have no limit to ram instead of 4 gig limit. So a nice upgrade would solve it without much code editing. Running out of database? Triple the ram! Still low? Triple it again!

Hmm.. I just thought, perhaps they WANT players to quit so that they can decrease the database sizes!! Or maybe they want us to quit so we'll go play a different MMPORG?
In any case, this is going to be the effect if they implement the coming nerfs..
