Thread: How to correctly drop Merchant with the new system?

OK, I was a very successful Master Architect. I made around 30mil in revenue and maybe 10mil profit over a few months. Then everything came to a halt. Nothing sold anymore, nothing moved. No one ever needed anything other than maybe some spare furniture, which hardly makes any profit.

So I've got about 15mil worth of harvesters, houses, furniture, etc on my vendors now. I sell maybe 3 things a week at this rate and it's usually small stuff like furniture. Half the people in my guild/town have quit lately for JTL beta or WoW, or just quit because they hate SOE.

Now I've completely dropped Master Architect because I see no need to make MORE stuff that no one wants.

But now that I'm done with that, I've still got Novice Merchant and about 750 items on 3 vendors. I was hoping that I could clear the stuff (mostly) within a few weeks... but that hasn't happened and sales are even slower than before.

So I need these skills points (Novice Merchant, Business IV, and Novice Artisan) back to use for MBH and Pistoleer, etc. Is there any way to keep my vendors around for a few weeks after dropping Merchant? Will there be a warning mail when I drop Merchant to tell me how long until my vendors disappear? Or will they just poof instantly? or randomly?

Also how am I supposed to sell anything without vendors? This sucks. Does anyone actually play this game just to be a Merchant and sell other people's stuff and not fill all of their vendors with their own stuff?

I do but it's tough because people expect merchants to pay full price for the item. Go to the trade forum and see if there's a merchant lurking that'll buy the stuff from you. You might have to "dump" the items but then again, you're getting something for your efforts

You don't want us to think you are a dirty scumsucking exploiter do you? Will there be a warning mail when I drop Merchant to tell me how long until my vendors disappear? Mail? maybe....or maybe not.. Or will they just poof instantly? or randomly?it's pretty random but they will poof.

Also how am I supposed to sell anything without vendors? the bazaar, trade forums, trade chat channel, shouting in coronet. This sucks. Does anyone actually play this game just to be a Merchant and sell other people's stuff and not fill all of their vendors with their own stuff?Yes.. i do and others do as well.

If you want the benefits of our skills, keep the skillpoints invested.. otherwise use those other options i mentioned to sell your stuff... also don't forget about storing those items without vendors.. 750 is a bit much.. fire sale is your best bet.

I was running 2 vendors at 0004 w/ max items on the vendors, and dropped down to 4000 artisan while I was doing combat missions. After a few days, I picked up 0040 artisan and was able to manage my vendors again. I'm guessing that I wouldn't have been able to operate them while I was at 0 buisiness skill, but it wasn't a very big deal to pick up artisan skills.

You should be able to drop down, then after awhile when/if you recieve an email saying "the vendor will be deleted soon," pick up enough skill to list/re-list the items and then drop down again. Easy enough.

You can not add any new items for sale to any vendor if you do not have the skills to support the number of vendors you have.

This means that if you drop the Merchant skills completely, and the Artisan Business tree, anything you have on the vendor will remain, but if not sold within the 30 days will drop to the stock room and will not be able to be resold butwill be able to be removed.

After 100 days of no activity (ie nothing sold and nothing new added to the vendor) the vendor will disapear with no warning and no recompense for lost items or maintenance on the vendor. You may get a warning email before this happens, but I wouldn't guarentee it.

Enjoy

The reason why your not making any sales is because your vendors are no longer listed on the planetary map. You no longer have advertizing 3. Therefore, no-body can look up your vendors.

Trust me, people will be buying harvesters like hotcakes once JTL comes out. Those ships will most likely take a lot of resources. And people who need resources will need harvesters. If you can hold out for 2 more weeks, and get back to advertizing 4, you should be able to turn a nice profit.

Otherwise, Spam the trade fourms, Spam coronet, and maybe even try to hook up with a mall owner and sell him everythign at a discount.

Just keep novice merchant.
You'll be able to manage all those items.

I never did have advertising or a listing on the planetary map.

And I can't keep Novice Merchant, because I need to drop it for other skills which need the points.

But it does look like I can drop Merchant and Artisan and then just wait for my vendors to sell all the junk. I just can't add more stuff, which is fine with me, and seems reasonable.

I've been doing a clearance sale for a few days now and it's been fairly effective, except I still have at least 500 items to go... though I did make like 20mil.

Thanks for the information.

You DO NOT need to keep advertising three to be listed on the planetary map. You only need to reach it once to register your vendors...then you can drop all of advertising if you want and the vendor WILL stay listed on the map (unless you have 0 items for sale on the vendor for longer than 2 weeks, in which case it will be removed from the map by the system).
