I always check the vendors in my shop but one I am running for my guild was forgotten about for a few days and is now at 92% (why don't they send emails about this?). I figured it was like a harvester and added maitenence to it, assuming that it would take the cost of repair (1200 was listed in the status window) and add the rest onto future maitenence... but it just ignored the repair and added it all onto future maitenence. Ok, maybe I missed a repair option... no option to be found. Is there then no way to repair a vendor?

It will take care of itself. The condition on vendors doesn't update immediately like harvesters do. Once you put maintenance in it it takes a while (maybe even up to a server restart) for it to update.

Vendors and buildings/installations/etc work differently in how they manage maintenance.
A building/installation lists a certain maintenance cost per hour, but since they need to operate continously they are constantly checking the maintenance rate and the power status. This is so that the moment it runs out of either of these it shuts down. As a result, maintenance paid to repair damage is applied immediatly.
A vendor will continue to operate even if it is damaged. So as to reduce the load on the servers, vendors only check maintenance when required. Under normal circumstances this means that the vendor will not care about maintenance until they are loaded into the system, and from that point on it will only check once per hour.
This means that your damaged vendor will not check its maintenance until it's next hour tick. Incidentally, this is also when Merchant XP is updated as well. When it does, firstly it will check to see if there is enough maintenance to repair the damage. If there is it will repair it then and subtract the money from the maintenance pool. Then it will check to see if it has enough to cover the next hours worth of maintenance. If there is it will subtract the money from the maintenance pool, otherwise it will get more damage and if the damage is enough to take the condition to 0 or less, it is destroyed.
Because it works in such a different fashion to all other items in the game that require Maintenance, a lot of people don't quite understand.
I hope this helps.
