Thread: Idea to help people not steal vendors

At master merchant, merchants get an item to sell. Its sole purpose is storage let it have the capacity of vendors but only let people with access to the structure be able to put on or remove items. Have no retrieve tabs and unable to set prices on items. Maybe call it a vault.
Feedback?
Interesting idea. But I see too many flaws currently. Namely, there is no way to differentiate between people taking business 3 for a vendor and using it for storage, nor *currently* being able to take vendor skills and drop them.
Once those are fixed however, maybe some like a 'deep storage' vault. Additional storage space for things you don't want to get rid of, but you also don't plan on using often. I do like the idea. It would certainly add more purpose to merchant mastery and provide the added storage that EVERYONE is looking for.
I've thought up the 'vault'/deep storage thing on my own as well, but not as a merchant 'product'. To combat the attractivenss of this additional storage, since it is 'deep storage', maybe have a delay timer to retrieve items. like 24 hours.
Meaning, we will give you the storage you are looking for, but you will not have easy access to it. There does need to be a deterrant i think to having this extra storage, but yet giving people 'part' of what they want. It shouldn't be easy to use, but I agree something like this should be available.
1) make the number of lots depend on the account, not per character. Say 30 or 40 lot in total.
2) allow use to increase storage capacity of a house by increasing the lot size. Add one lot and another 75 item to a house. (but no extra maintains).
Vendor poaching should be stopped by fixing bugs, not by offering the same thing in a different way. Storage issues resulting in vendor abuse, should be solved throe addressing the need for large amount of storage, not by making vendor abuse in to a feature.
Allow me to clarify a bit, These are intended to be used after they fix the dropping of skill and keeping a vendor i dont agree people should do that either. Not to mention it will clear a hell of a lot of vendors off the cntrl V map. Nor should it be unlimited. I assume they will put a vendor item limit in anyway. Make the vault have that same limit. I fail to see why there would be any restrictions on these items like a delay. Perhaps a rather expensive upkeep.
This way it completely seperates Vendors and storage. Houses simply dont hold enough items.
Greets ..
I don't get this thread.
If you spend the points on a Vendor, I believe you can use it anyway you like. If you want to use it as "storage" that is ok as far as the context of the game is concerned. Once they limit the vendors properly this will be even less of a topic.
Right now Iam 2 boxes away from master merchant ... I have spent a *lot* of points on the skill. My normal vendors hold 400-500 items to sell, so I have no problem using one of my vendors to hold 400-500 storage items. I paid the points for the vendors, all the way across the board ... I *paid* for the extra storage unit :-)
The point of this thread is to discuss alternatives to using vendors as a storage medium. Vaults as it were was the idea i put forth.
A few responses to this thread has shownresentment from some people, its not that they hate others using vendors as storage but they want merchants to be the only ones with other storage options. Biggest problem with this disscusion people are to fixated on how it is now not how it should be in the future. If the merchant community wants to pigeon hole itself as all about vendors and only vendors so be it.
Vendors should be about one thing, buying and selling from other players. Now merchants should be able to "rent" out vendors to other players and in turn they get a percentage of each sale. Or have other players come to merchants to pitch their wares. Many other ideas can be presented to expand the merchants role in the econemy rather then just popping down a couple vendors.
One of the responses was Vaults only turns an exploit into a feature. Its not like were taking the same code for vendors and just renaming it a vault
1. Vaults can only have items added and removed from it by people with structure permission
2. You cannont price any item on a vault. No sell to vault option.
3. A higher upkeep would be neccesary. This could be rather steep since players wouldnt get the cost reduction of merchants.
4. Master merchants would sell these to other players (A bit of a stretch i know but why not)
This takes nothing away from merchants and addresses a concern from the entire player base.
To reiterate It is not OK for a merchant to use a vendor as a storage unit either, a vendors purpose is to be an AFK unit to buy and sell items between players. Another item should be created as a storage unit.
