When trying to colour my house sign text I have run into a peculiar problem.... ingame my \ key doesnt work. As you can see out of game it works fine but when i go to type in a hex colour ingame on my house sign, the key is just dead. Without the \ I obviously cant use Hex colours.

Any ideas from you guys and gals?

Edit your notepad file outside the game and put in the text you want... Then in game copy and paste it from the /notepad into the house sign...

Edited to correct spelling and let you know the notepad file is the notes.txt in your profile directory.

I have the same problem:

I did this a couple of days ago... opened up my notes.txt file in notepad, and jotted down an idea for my house sign, including colours & line breaks etc. When I opened the notepad in game... it had parsed the hex code and I had colour writing in the notepad!!! Doh!

It would be much much easier if I could simply find a way to get my backslash key to work in-game... I had a look in the keybindings, it's not bound for anything else. Odd.

Next time I remember to do anything about this, I'll just type a backslash into my notes.txt file which I can copy and paste in-game.

Yeah, I forgot it changes all following text to the color requested because I add it to the bottom of my /notepad... Just putting a backslash in teh notes is another good idea... My key works fine in game, so I'm not sure what would cause that issue for anyone unless it was some type of binding... Sorry I can't help with a more permanent resolution...

Yup, I have the same problem.

And thanks for posting the copy and paste to the /no, and also the problems it causesnever thought of doing that. Silly me... I'll keep searching for that ever illusive reason behind why that key wont work though, I thought at one point it could be bindings, and I also thought it could be my tea stained, ash covered MS keyboard.

It's fooled me many a time with that F-Lock key, I don't trust it.

I think the game only recognises US keyboards- aside from "\", I also can't use "~" to call up a radial menu, as it doesn't recognise the key.

For changing sign colours, as has been pointed out editing the notepad makes the /note screen show the text in colour, and doesn't cut and paste properly. However... the cut and paste uses the Windows clipboard, so it's possible to copy your text from notepad / wordpad in windows and past it in game.

Yes, this must be it, I had the same problem with the tilde ("~") key, though it was easy enough to re-bind that.

On a slightly related note, does anyone know if there's a way to use international characters (e.g. é or à) in game with a UK or US keyboard?

Ok, for the tilde key "~" you can kemap it by going into Options > Controls > Keymapping (on bottom of window)

To get the folor tags to work on your house signs, you may wanna use the trick I do.

Here's my sign, for example. It looks like this outside:

Derianadai's Kitchen
Master Chef Vendors
Coming Soon!

To get that, I did this in my notepad:

.\#009900Derianadai's Kitchen
\#ffcc33Master Chef Vendors
\#33ffffComing Soon!
\#ffffff------

Ok, note two things here. 1) the last line and 2) the period at the front of the first line. Why these?

The last line makes it so all the rest of my notepad goes back to white. It also gives me something to grab when I go to copy and paste. I just hit Backspace once its in the naming window until I get to the " ! " at the end of the line above.

The period at the front of the first line makes it so I have something to grab in the notepad so I know I got the whole hex code. It's easier than trying to go in and retype it in the little naming window.

I just Backspace to get rid of the last line and then hit Ctrl+Home to get to the very beginning. I hit Delete once to kill the period and then hit Enter and voila! colorful sign!

Hope that helps!

I suggest making your sign in something like MicroSoft Word or a word processor and then copy/paste it into your notepad out of game and see if it shows up in game.

This may seem a dumb question, butI haven't a clue how to copy and paste in game. Could someone explain to me how this works please ? I want to make the colourfull signs for my vendor but as you can probably tell from the way I spell colour, I'm from the UK and our \ key doesn't work in game.

Thanks guys.

You have to remap those keys.

Go to Options > Controls > Keymap (little button bottom of that window)

A new window will pop up, chose the Chat tab on it. Then find Edit Copy and Edit Paste and rebind those to keys you want to use for copying and pasting. I use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V and just rebound my planetary map and character sheet tabs.
