Thread: Email Broken? It will never be fixed

** IMPORTANT NOTE **

It has been almost two month that my in game email has been broken (inbox always empty when I logon). Over the last three weeks I finally was able to get a dialogue started with a CSR, via email, and he forwarded my problem description and symptoms on to his supervisors and the developers.

Much to my dismay, I received the following email this morning:

I am afraid I have some very bad news. I was told by my supervisor that the
developers can do nothing to fix your email. I am so very sorry for this.
Thank you again, for your patience in this matter.

Sincerely,
CSR [name omitted]
[address]@soe.sony.com

I can not believe it. Essentially I have just been told that my in game email will NEVER be fixed. Something that is near game breaking for a merchant with vendors yet there is nothing they can do about it.

Even worse, I anticipated becoming a politician and being a mayor. From what I've read on the Test Center forum, many of the city's functions generate email (people building, people moving buildings, status of taxes, etc).

Urgent Request

If anyone that has experienced this problem has succesfully restored their email functionality, please let me know - either by PM or posting here. I anxiously desire to know whether this is truly permanent or not.

I am pretty sure he meant "fix" in a "retrieve lost emails" kind of way.

Um - no - I didn't paste the entire chain of emails we've exchanged on this subject.

He clearly means - they can do nothing to fix the fact that my inbox is EMPTY every time I logon. If I have three emails in my box - I disconnect to login server screen and then reconnect, my inbox is empty again.

Has been this way since the end of August or first week of September.

two months and counting for me as well.....

it started sporatically....emails would be late...really late.....then suddenly i would get like 20 at a time...checking those would lock the game up....then my old emails vanished and i would only have them from a day or so back...sometimes the old ones would magically appear...i could only read mail right after i logged in or it would lock and crasg the game...then eventually i got to where we all are and i only got mail that was sent while i was online and it vanishes each time you log

SOE has known about this (or should have) for some time....they have locked or deleted every thread started on the subject...the tech forum tells you to post in the discusion forum..if you post there they lock it and tell you its off topic and not the right forum....tech suport also tells you to use /bug which is laughable since /bug doesnt work...my csr tickets have yet to be answered but then again the csrs havent helped with anything....

its time to raise a big stink about this

Well I tried...all I got was in "trouble" and the nerve of some idiot bounty hunter telling me that my angry posts were unacceptable. Its become quite apparant to me that no one will fix my problem. Your choices appear to be thus:

Quit

Play on a different server (your mail will work fine on the other servers)

Accept the fact that you are borked forever and they dont give a crap and never plan on giving a crap.

So all my factories now tell my story for their name. All my vendors ad bark that my email has been broken for 2 months and sony has given me a warning for refusing to delete my ticket about it. Ive written a nice article about the problem and the treatment that Ive received and I had been asked to give Marqie and Thunderheart some time but that doesnt seem to be going anywhere so I guess the next step is to send my information to any gaming review company I can think of and managment suits at sony and lucas. End result will probably be Sony banning me from the game I guess as that seems to be what they do when people speak out against them. As if I should care, the dang thing doesnt work...They dont seem to get that. Such a pity I could get better customer service milking a cow in the pasture next door. I love the game, I enjoy my class and I really want to stick it out through the bugs. Sonys disgusting callous way of treating people is I guess going to deprive me of that because Ive been laying on my back taking this crap for 2 months now and Ive tried getting help the nice way...over and over..no one at Sony cares, why should I? Ive played online games for YEARS and I have never..NEVER been reduced to a pile of steaming excrement by a company in this manner before. Especially one that I *pay* for.

Someone told me yesterday...

"You know, not only should they fix your problem, they should make you a jedi and fly out to your house and bring you flowers and take you out to dinner to apologize for what they have done to you."

Sad thing is, I just wanna be able to play like everyone else. I dont give a toot about Jedi or flowers or dinner..Id just like to be able to play as well as I could play when I started playing.

If they are not going to fix our problem, they need to give us new accounts and move our characters to them. Its simply ludicrous. I can imagine the phone company saying..well ma'am we are sorry that your phone only works when your mother-in-law calls but we really cant fix it for you and weve decided you dont really need to use it for anything else anyway. Just keep sending us that check each month and we will see that you can keep getting calls from your in-laws. Oh and by the way, if you ever call us about this problem again, we will see to it that the electric company messes up for you too.

but Niki..for me its not about just playing like everyone else...I am a MERCHANT....email is vital to my profession...people cant tell me when my order is ready...people cant place orders to me...i dont know when things have sold or what has sold...i dont know who bought what so i cant follow up....i dont know when items have come off my vendor so they might get deleted...

basically i am gimped... i also have a feeling that this problem will eventually happen to EVERY ONE

No kidding hon...Ive been dealing with it for 2 months and I am a merchant. I spend 2 hrs every freaking day taking physical inventory because of this crap..Ive been banned from the forums and have a warning on my account all for trying to get it fixed. Im the one thats been screaming to the top of my lungs for help while most everyone else with the problem sits back and things someone might actually fix it one day.

When I say I wanna be able to play like everyone else what I mean is that I should have a right to be able to have the same tools at my disposal as every other merchant. My other occupation is chef *laugh*. Im doubly doomed. The difference is...ALL chefs are hindered. There is nothing unfair about the treatment I receive as a chef as ALL chefs are treated this way, we are all broken. (granted its unfair to the class to be ignored but theres not a single person or 5 singled out). It his however wrong that I am crippled by a bug that the rest of the merchants dont have. If every other merchant has the ability to recieve email...well I pay just as much money as them, I should have that ability as well. My profession depends on it and its a functional part of the game for apparantly 99.9% of people. Do not even think for a minute you have to explain the pain to me about it Ive dealt with it for 2 months and have tried to get it fixed a lot harder apparantly than most people with the problem.

Not a solution - but a work around until your email is fixed - stay logged on continuously, except for server boot times. That is what I have had to do in order to keep track of things.

I run a looping macro before going to bed and set my alarm clock for 30 minutes before server down time (in my case, 5:30 AM central time). Then I can usually log back on a little after 7:00 AM before I leave for work.

On the mornings that the server is not up before I leave, my wife or my son logs me on a couple of hours later.

Again - this is NOT a solution - but it is better than not getting the email at all.

I normally get up right as the servers come down...its pathetic that I should have to wake up early to check on a game LOL. Its just such a sad state of affairs made even worse by the total disregard and poor treament from sony. No wonder the president of Lucas Arts resigned. I would be utterly embarassed for eternity.

Also, keep this in mind: you cost them more money if you stay logged on all the time. The single biggest expense in running these games is bandwidth, and the cheapest people to service are those who don't use as much of it because they don't play as much. If you're logged on 20 hours a day, then *your* problem becomes *their* problem because their bills go up.
