Merchants should be a key factor in PC town, the question is how?

One thing I like to see is for towns to have shopping centers, basically instead of each merchant have his own building there would be one large build that merchants could place there vendors in. the building size could be determed by how may merchants live in the town, a novice merchant being worth 6 points and a master being 63 points. a large house size would need 200, and with 1,000 the town could get one of those converted cargo space ships.

What do you want?

Sounds like an idea..

From my perspective...

Our player city will be entirely made up from my PA's members (currently 100 of us)

My role will be to run the large house, in which all of the artisans vendors shall be placed (I am also going to have my own resource vendors.) - These vendors shall stock full price merchandise for sale to outsiders.

The PA's second merchant shall be running the private vendors within our PA hall, which have our uniform, and PA made equipment for free issue to members (read 1 credit a piece)

Over and above this, I do not know what a Merchants role will be - although I will have my work cut out, just organising the above..

I am sort of already doing that now..

I purchased a Generic PA Hall that I am currently using as the HalfWayFar Mall on the Bria server. I currently have 3 shops in the Mall, and 3 more scheduled for wednesday. About half of the Vendors in the Mall are not owned by me.

I am not charging an arm and leg to locate in the Mall either because any business they bring in benefits the whole Mall Merchant Group. I currently Lease at 500 Credits a day payable in weekly installments via /tip bank.

The only had part is that a new merchant wishing to locate in the mall has to free up 9 slots for a 1/2 hour to place his vendor and store intems.

Currently I don't see the goods on the vendor counting towards the 250 items max which is good. So I have budget set a budget to allow myself to decorate the mall and allow them to present an attractive store. Currently each merchant is allowed to drop 15-20 items in his store.

BTW... I am getting 5-10 visitors an hour and I am not even really open yet (Sign reads **Opening Soon**). On top of that I have had 10 new homes pop up over night in the area of the new mall. Most of which are all merchants hoping to pickup on the Mall traffic. hehe

That's the killer, that's the #1 problem for merchanting right now. To build traffic you need to have a variety and placing merchants has got to be fixed. <fingers crossed> that it really is when they release the big patch.

You noticed that happening also?? I opened my store in a Random spot and now all of a sudden there are houses everywhere (most merchants) and an entire guild has setup there... How do I compete with a guild hall?
