Thread: I want a store, not an in-home business!

Does anyone else have a problem with the fact that you have to use a house to put a vendor in? I want a structure the size of a small house, with just one big room and a counter I can put my vendor behind. I can drop some samples of my goods in the room for people to look at. Also, I want the exterior visual to be easily distinguished from a house. Its a bleeding store, can it please look like one?

Of course, make the structure only take one lot instead of two. I don't want all the crap a house can do with this structure, I just want a unique storefront structure that lets people know someone is selling something over there. I also don't want to have to use other peoples structures to be able to use my full allotment of vendors, so either give advanced artisan professions more lots or make some structures not use up a lot space. We can't reach the pinnacle with the current restricitions. And don't get me wrong, I don't want more harvesters I just want to be able to enjoy my chosen profession without having to beg someone to allow me to put a vendor in his (probably) already overcrowed home.

I'm not selling Amway or Avon, stop making me use houses!

The small generic isn't bad as a little shop. I agree, I would like to see store design buildings. I've also suggested that these be available only to people with merchanting skill.

Problem with this is that as you propose they only take one lot. Depending on size and look people would use them as a home and then it is still back to square one. Only way to do it would be upon placing said building it would place non usable items to suit the shop they are intended. For example if you where so open a armor store you would declare this and it would decorate the inside and out to look like a armor store. No items could be droped in such a building but vendors. The item count would have to be taken into consideration as well.

I already know i am a merchant i sell every ones stuff. Well for this they would have a multi purpose shop option and would have alot of every thing possible in there.

Just my 2 cents

from the start I have said there needs to be a "shop" style house. That is a SHOP, I have a house that is a shop, I have done my best to make it look like a shop with the very limited items.

I want a SHOP style for the planets.

I think this is a great idea, and the schematics should be available in the business tree of artisan. That's my biggest problem with that tree personally, a merchant has to grind out the same novice items to advance to business and not getting anything new added to the tree up it to give some variety. That's just my opinion though.

You can also make it an archetect item, and the deed has a pre-req of say "Novice Merchant" to use. (just a thought)

Yea I'd like to see business use merchant xp and you get 50xp per bazaar sale. Then remove vendor from business line. Fixes the need to grind bone armor to get business skill which is stupid and keeps vendors to people who earn them.

I 2nd the cert requirement for a Shop that would be earned in the Novice Merchant block. This would also allow for later expansion of shop styles with the certs being higher in on the Merchant skill lines. Or having one more shop style that is only usable by a Master Merchant. Well worth discussing. I am sure the architects wouldn't mind a new building.

I don't want a one lot house. I want a structure that is uniquely a "store" and that can only have a vendor and some furniture in it, and maybe some display areas that allow you to put some product for ambiance.

In an ideal world, I would place my vendor and have a structure spring up around it, something that wouldn't take away from my lots so that I could continue to advance in my other crafting profession as well, but for some reason people seem to thing that artisans don't need any morelots than the current amount that everyone gets....like a gunbunny has any use for 10 lots...

I just want something that says store so that the people constantly running by my location on their way to a destroy mission stop by for some powerups and maybe a piece of armor or seven....

I'll third the cert requirement for a one-room one-lot shop. I also propose that to combat merchants (or crafters training up to merchant for the one lot shop) using them as houses, only have like a 50 or 100 item limit placed on it, of course this is assuming that vendoritems taking up house items is fixed. I don't mind the idea actually.

1. Allow 'Shops' to be built by architects. These shops vary from houses and can be clearly seen as such... perhaps they even have larger signs with more space on them. There should be three types of shops... small, medium, and large (just like houses). The small takes up0 lots, the medium 1, and the large 2.

1a. Perhaps even allow new shop furniture, like counters and display cases. We know these items are already in the game, because we see them in developer-made towns. A "sign" on the inside would be nice, where the user could click on it and get a MOTD, or a price list, or even a "Sorry, restocking in two hours" notice.

2. These shops CANNOT be placed by anyone without Novice Merchant (or make it tougher, even). Regular vendors could remain they way they are. Alternately, put small shop at the bottom, medium in the middle, and large at Master Merchant.

3. The front door to all shops MUST be "public". This would further discourage novice merchants from using the shop as their "house". The small shop has ONE room. The medium has TWO rooms with a door between them... this door can be locked & unlocked by the owner viaa permissions list just like the front door on a "house". The large shop has THREE rooms, all with lock-able doors (except the front door). This permits the merchant to allow custom access to vendors which may have special or discounted items "in the back room".

- On a different note, you could also use your PA hall as a type of multi-vendor bazaar and save the whole issue some work... if placing vendors in other people's houses worked at all, that is. Think about it. In my guild, (TTG), everyone has their own shop with their own vendors, and we're scattered in our player-city. If I advertise my wares, I'm the only person who benefits. BUT, if we could all place a vendor at our PA hall, we could simply give out the WP of the hall every time someone needs your vendor loc, and they'd find a row of vendors right there, ready to sell them house deeds, weapons, armor, clothing, etc etc. What a relief not to have to run between houses just to browse vendors, eh?

- Perhaps we just allow ONE "store" structure, and make it big and heavy like a PA hall. Call it a mall. People place their vendors along the main wall, or even in small rooms like in the in-town "guild halls" you see everywhere in SWG.

More shop ideas: built in crafting station and a storage area to put supplies away other than just dropping them on the floor.
