Thread: When are we gonna see consignment sales... or ANY merchant updates for that matter!`

I've noticed that no merchant updates have been planned for the next publish. I thought we were on top of their list. They barely did anything in Publish 6, and the xp changes don't even effect us masters!!


I want consignment sales, and I want to be proud of being a master merchant. Can someone tell me if the Devs even plan on getting to us in the near future?

Where did you hear you were at the top of the list? It's a known fact that Droid Engineers are the top priority with the next two publishes since everything else seems to be running 'smooth' (ie no real issues) enough. They've been stating that for months now.

The only "update" merchants will get is a cap on how many items our vendors can hold.

Publish 7 and 8 are heavily loaded with Droid changes as that profession was promised major attention several months ago and was pushed out until these two publishes. They are doing small things for the professions based on a list they have of items the various professions have suggested but it just depends on the time they have and the size of the requests. Something like consignment sales is a pretty large change.


As for the item cap. Yea that is coming but not until publish 8 as far as I know at this time. We still don't have a final decision on what the cap will be yet.

Merchant isn't 'broken' either. It is a perfectly usable profession, though maybe not awholly gratifying, ergonomic (a very repetitive clicking profession), or maximizedprofession. We will see this profession change alot over time. Consignment will be huge and it will come eventually.

You have a pretty soft criterion for 'broken' to my mind. Just because it is possible to be successfull at the merchant role, doesn't make the skill tree we buy for our points functional. You might as well claim that Squad Leader isn't broken, because some people are good at leading groups whether or not the skills in that profession work.


I recently started an alt on Bria with the intention of becomming a doctor. Because I needed cash to buy basics like a car and a droid, I started selling resources on the bazaar. Found some bargains about and sold those too. With not even Bus 1, I easily raised a bunch of money. Effectively, I have become a successfull merchant without any of the skills.


That character now has better combat ability than my main, and is well on the way to doctor. He will probably continue to be a merchant in his spare time, just to keep cash flowing in. But I am sure he will never invest a skill point in it.


I think Squad Leader is a good comparison. They have more skills that are bugged to worthlessness, but they would be better off if all their skills worked to spec. Everyone agrees that profession is broken, but every day groups go out with a squad leader that likes the role.

The definition of broken is simple: bugs. If a profession has lots of bugs, it is broken. Just because it does not appease to Bob's tastes does not make it "broken". It makes it unappeasing.

The reason I thought we were at the top of the list is because I read in one of the team letters or something awhile ago that the devs had plans (in the immediate future) to make some changes to some professions, among which were chefs, DE's, smugglers, and even merchants. I was just wondering if these "changes" would include any of the stuff that had been recomended by these forums.

I saw that too.. It kept me hanging on, especially as I started seeing talk of improvements to chef, and smuggler, and the Droid Invasion stuff.. I'm still hanging on, and really really hoping that the "proffession augmentation" they have planned for us includes more then a vendor nerf and a bazaar increase that further allows everyone to be merchants without investing any skill points into it..

With the prioritisation of Jedi as the profession that needs fixing I doubt any other profession will be looked at after the DE publish goes through. From hearsay I believe the Jedi thing is going to be over two publishes, so you can estimate that no-one is going to be looked at for 3 months.

It seems like any profession, lately,that gets attention from the Devs, also gets a lot of problems (in fixing this problem we had to break 12 other things . . .). Perhaps it is better if merchant profession doesn't get attention.
