Thread: Good idea for Merchant or Bad?

Here this idea throw around on another forum and it made lots of sense to me.

Link all merchant vendors to the bazzar system.

People can buy and bid on goods.

The customer would recieve a waypoint where to pick up the item.

I think everyone is tired of spending 3 hours flying around only to find empty or understocked vendors.

If this idea was taken to live, players could shop in the cities then travel to a store to pick up the goods.

That might be good for the consumer, but it would totally take any kind of marketing or business strategy out of the game. Plus, the bazaar couldn't handle it. Think about howhard it is nowto find what you're looking for on the bazaar, and then multiply that by 20. Although, if the devs would fix the bazaar to make more useful distinctions between items, it might be a more feasible idea.

hehe... the bazaar lags enough when I try to see all bazaar items around the galaxy. Imagine if it had to search through EACH and EVERY single vendor that each players places in every city on every planet!!!!!!!!!!!

But I agree with the last person, doing that would defy the purpose of registering planets on the planetary map. But, it would reduce advertising spam on major cities.

The problem with this idea is that there is no way to guarantee that the building will even be there much less the vendor when you get there to pick up your merchandise. This was removed during beta and I think this was the main reason there was no way to prevent the vendor from being deleted, the house from having a huge entry fee (in beta the house could be private as well)

It would also be a nightware to add all those items to the list without rewriting the search interface to include string searches.

Interesting. Didnt consider the house access fees.

Brings up another question though, whats the logic behind having to pay to enter the store?

I also see the point of someone listing a high priced item and then removing the vendor....

First thought would be the credit transaction would take place when the item was picked up. Problem with that you could buy things with no intention of picking them up....

Maybe what could be done is master merchants could place vendors inside of cities.

It would be really convient to have a row of say 200 vendors downone ofside streets

Right now, I usually set aside 3 hours one night a week to search for the supplies I need.

The number of empty and misleading vendors is amazing.

One of the worse things to happen in the game is for players to get holocrons to master merchant.

Nothing like a large house with vendors called krayt weapons, sliced armor, uber loot....only to find them all empty.

If you put vendors in a static city you would have to severely limit the number of them because the lag would be unbearable. I like ideas that give merchants more advertising space. A great Idea (IMO) is to allow master merchants to put in a small amount of text that could be accessed via the global map (right clicking the name on the vendor listing on the right side maybe) where they could give you some information about their items maybe even let you know the last time it was stocked etc.

As for empty vendors. I know I recently visited a city on Lok.. I visited 5 shops. 2 had signs on the houses that said "Vendor Inside" and didn't have a vendor. 2 others had completely empty vendors and the 3rd had a small amount of merchandise on it. All 3 of the existing vendors were bulky machine vendors which most likely indicates a Business III vendor and not a merchant vendor.
