Thread: No reboot = not getting kicked?

I've heard that the servers don't get shut down every day any more (I'm usually asleep when this happened, so I'm not sure). So does this mean that the people who sit afk all day won't ever get kicked? If they set up spambots, they'll spam 24/7 until the owner manually logs off several days or weeks later? I'm not sure how I feel about all of this. The good things are that it would apply to autobuffers like docs and entertainers (and maybe merchants too - I love hearing advertisements from droids!). The bad is that the afk shouters will hit critical mass, and the afk combat/looters will never stop. Or is there something else in place to prevent all of this?

Are you being sarcastic or did you just say you like the merchant droids but hate the afk spammers? I prefer the afk spammers as they can be ignored, droids can't. My personal opinion is that barker droids were one of the worse things that happened to this game.....and I'm a Master Merchant.

Ok- maybe the only reason I like to hear droid spam is because it's one of the few good things the merchant profession provides. But it's still better than afk spammers. At least they're limited on message length, repeat time. But this has been discussed at length in other threads.

What I was getting at in this thread is that there's now no reset to any of this, as far as I can tell. People can spam or run any other macro for weeks on end if they want to. I was actually hoping that someone would post here explaining that this isn't possible for some reason or another. I'm glad the servers don't get reset any more - I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. But one of the disadvantages is that afk spammers and other macro people will be able to do their macros without end now.

I use barkers droids and it is a hell of alot better than spammers... who spam their message ever 3.4seconds.. literally.

But they can be ignored and totally negated. There are atleast 50 times a day I find myself typing "/addignore" then looking at spatial to the name of the spammer and see that it's just a droid. I would have no problem with them if they were ignorable and/or attackable. The devs do all kinds of things to get rid of AFK spammers then give us droids that allow people to put spam in more then one starport at a time that nobody can get rid of.

Maybe droids cannot be ignored, but in relation to the topic of this thread, there is the advantage that droids are limited to only barking until their batteries run out (not that long even with the new 4x battery life), while AFK'ers can continue indefinately until a server reboot.

hrm.. i ran a barker for 12 straight hours and battery only drained not even 1/4. The barker was stationary and not 'wandering'

Ya - if you tell your droid to stay, then shuttle somewhere, your droid doesn't lose any battery until you're within range of it again. They'll probably fix this eventually, but I'm sure they have bigger issues to handle right now. Though I wouldn't put it past them to nerf merchant again before they add some of the features we've been asking for forever. I haven't tested to find out if spambots can be left spamming for several days at a time yet. Maybe I'll set up a spambot tonight and see if it's still spamming when I check again in a few days...

Ok I've had my droid out in the middle of nowhere spamming "I'm lost" for days now . Looks like there's really no end to looping macros now. It'll be interesting to see what new explots come of this. I'm personally glad they made this change - but some creative people will surely find ways to use it to their advantage.
