Thread: Marketing Idea . . . Am I Nuts???

Way back when I started playing the game, you didn't get newbie droids with missions that paid quite well right off the bat. You had to scrounge a bit to upgrade weapons and maybe get a new set of clothes so you didn't look like such a noob. Packs were also not always cheap to come by, and are a boon to even the most elite adventurer. So here's my pitch:\

Offer the following in a basic pack on gthe bazaar:

basic weapons to begin your career (brawler or marksman, one of each basic weapon)

A factory crate of the appropriate power ups (melee or ranged)

2 Stim-B's (and the suggestion to take novice medic as well)

a voucher for one set of clothing (footwear, handwear, shirt, pants, jacket; not to exceed 2000 credits value)

Also would like to do the same for wookies
clothing voucher, player can choose colors

variations for brawler and marksman (trade out CDEF rifle for bowcaster, getting a schematic from a wookie WS)

Stim-B's

PuP's

pack

Since a newbie (true newbie) is cash poor, I thought of offering these items for 2500 credits. I know it's operating at a loss initially, but I am hoping that I get repeat business from them as well as word of mouth advertising as time goes by and they level up. I harvest/mine almost all of my resources, so it's not overly expensive for me to do this.

Am I nuts? Or will this not only provide a service to newbies, and follow-on business for myself? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I used to do this quite often for clothing, I would include a mix and match with species/gender in descript (color was the surprise),

Ialso would create bone segs that were 'gift certificates' by amount with my name and a reminder to email order with seg serial # ,

then they would have to have direct trade to recieve outfit for confirmation of certificate.

Alot of folks love getting such things for new toons or friends.

the only real downfall ( screw the looseing credits, that isn't why you make helper bags)

is that bags will go under wearble containers,

so folks looking for inexspensive clothes or start up gear may miss it.

I as a tailor make grab and go outfit packs, styled looks in one pack at a set price, buy and wear ready.

And it never hurts to build up your own crafting credit with the people out there, I encourage you fully.

(my all time favorite business card>

make a factory run of some item that people like and use copy/paste to set your name vendor loc and very short 'what i can do' under the items real name,

then give chunks of 10 to friends to hand out or plop a few singles on every citys bazaar)

ive done this, its a great idea in theroy but there is one problem with it.. The newbie droids give you all that stuff to some degree,.

people will buy your newbie packs and reprice um,, ive had this happen lots.Even 2500 credits is a lot to a newbie. especially one thats never played. I made 2 million in one week with a DL 44 and mabari i bought off the bazzar, and a bottle of brandy. jsut did it on chimaera.

Most would have no clue. If you really want a newbie vendor.. i have done this soo let me give you a tip

Put gear up for auction on the bazzar for 1 credit, name it with your shop location, and a description. What you sell and all about your shops merchandise. when the gear sells make new stuff and repost, dont remove the auction unless its not been bid on.

At your shop have a full line of newbie gear cheap, stims, mabari, cdefs, and low end guns. Make a deal with weapons smiths, docs, armorers to get this gear. make some clothing, and other stuff.. Put up signs in your shop that says you are looking for people to make gear, new crafters can help out a lot, have um make survey tools, make sure you have crafting tools, some cheap low end resources too in small stacksand sell for 2 cpu. I ran a very successfull newbie vendor this summer just out side mos esiley I sold most stuff at a lose but had higher end stuff there that i made up with. I eared customers, brought um to our city, showed um the ropes. Over all it was a nice experiance. You wont get rich but you will make a lot of freinds, and maybe some will last a long time : )

I use to do grab and go bags with differnt load outs. Survey kits, weapon kits, ready to ware outfits. This was all back in the day when bone armor wasmore commonthen composit istoday, keep in mind, but i did quite well at it

/grins

now days i dont know that it would be to pratical. there are just to many guilds like mine that hand this stuff out as soon as noobs get off the shuttle so to speak. Great thought though im sure grab bags still have uses but not in the noobs market i think
