Thread: Has any dev DONE this?
I would like a dev to make himself a master merchant and play the game for 8 days. Not all the time, but log in at least once each day and notice what the UI and game mechanics and the skill boxes are NOT doing for him:
1) Why did your vendor stop selling everything after a week? YOU don't want that, or you'd taken it off yourself.
2) When you DO take an item off-sale, why are you getting an email? YOU know you took it off cause you just did it.
3) You do, however, notice an item isn't selling. Why can't you click on it and reset its price without having to send it to the stockroom first?
4) For someone who offers an item to your vendor then rescinds the offer, WHY are you making them go to the available items hopper to retrieve it? Why in heck don't you just PUT IT IN THEIR INVENTORY there and then?
5) Look at a Carbinier (for example) and notice what the Master gets: 5 additions to boffo skills that will help him get his job done. Now look at your merchant. He gets 1 lousy skill (hiring) that he really doesn't need at that point. He's already hired! Or, if he wants to fire 1 and bring it back, does it really help him if he can make it a wookie instead of a human?
6) Speaking of skill boxes, did you notice that any crafter can spend relatively few points and create a vendor so he doesn't even need you?
7) Ah, but YOU get things like advertising! Did you try setting a map point? Did you notice you need to set it every day?
8) At Master, why can't you have a droid vendor that could patrol an area and AT LEAST show your wares? It should be able to sell them.
9) Why can't you bundle a set of armor without having to put it in a bag, where people can't see the individual stats? For that matter, why can't you put something on your vendor and say "This is for player X and nobody else can purchase it because he gave me an order and we agreed on a price?
10) In fact, at SOME point on the merchant tree, why can't we change the name of what we're selling? For example, we're selling a laser carbine, but we get it sliced. We should be able to set the item name on the vendor when we place it for sale.
11) If you've played this game for 8 days, you'd realize you want the ability to do this: Take an item from a supplier WITHOUT paying him, but agree the supplier gets a percentage of the sale price. If the item doesn't sell in a week (say) the item goes back to the supplier's inventory. Maybe this would need a high merchant skill box to be available as an option.
12) Ideally, you'd like to manage vendors and their inventory remotely. You shouldn't have to travel to each planet where you have a vendor in order to retrieve items, reprice, etc. Again, this could be a high skill box.
13) For crying out loud! Did you notice when you try to retrieve an item from your stockroom, you STILL have to retrieve it twice!
14) Ad-barking - a great thing! But it drives people CRAZY if we're in a well-traveled area like a cantina! Wouldn't you like to be able to set a timer on the bark? Like, once every 30 seconds, 1 minute, etc?
If you really PLAY as amerchant for over a week, you'll realize that, after beta and MONTHS of live, we finally have the ability to dress our vendors all alike and make them ask, "Do you want fries with that?" But we have no real ability to control our business or affect our sales. On top of all that, the UI seems to be the FIRST pass of what was needed without taking into account what we do every day.
Please help this profession. We're not a majority of players but we're trying to fit in this game and do a job. LEARN and RESPECT that job and give us the tools to do it well. The crafters, the buyers, we ourselves, and most gamers will respect you for it.
Good post.
No one cares but us and the Devs won't come in here unless it's to warn us about an impending nerf.
But still, good post.
good post, but one thing to think about is that almost every merchant skills douse not work correctly
What selling advantage does a merchant have over a guy with business3? Not very much. It is a shame how a guy with Business3 can go toe to toe with a master merchant. Sure we have some cool toys... but we do not have much of an advantage over business3.
Rangers are better than Scouts
Pistoleers are suppose to be better than Marksmen
Cooks, Tailors, DEs, Architects are better than Artisans
Merchants are not better than Artisan/businessmen. -Why?

Personally i like receiving 567 emails every 7 days, it makes me feel popular!

O M G thank you thank you...YEAH WHAT THE F! =)

Master Merchant, the most useless skill box in all of SW:G. How bout giving me some terrain negotiation mods or some defense mods in the merchant tree since 1. I have no points left to get them outside artisan/elite/merchant, and 2. being a master merchant is completely broken and useless.
12) Ideally, you'd like to manage vendors and their inventory remotely. You shouldn't have to travel to each planet where you have a vendor in order to retrieve items, reprice, etc. Again, this could be a high skill box.
I'd kill for this skill.

Isnt this a feature?

For the sake of the force, does he have to BARK AT ME THE MASTER MERCHANT WHO PAYS HIM every time i walk by? Why cant he keep track of who he's barked at just like he keeps track of who he's given me exp from?

First, now that i have the ability to finally use Hiring 4 to its full extent, can you please give me back the skinny twilek girl, the new one has business class hips and so do every other humanoid female vendor. Maybe this is shallow, but i dont think the EEO comission covers virtual space.
Second - for real...either fix us or lower our skillpoints used. Look at the merchant skill tree. Tell us, with a straight face, what the use of mastering it is. How bout giving us a substancial reduction for efficiency 4. How bout giving me that reduction for every structure i'm an admin on. How bout giving the master box something worthwhile, not a c3po droid who cant even ad bark.
Whatever you do with this class i hope you do it soon, it's exciting to know i have no skill points left because i want to log in every morning and turn on my advertising, or spend2 hours a week relisting items because the UI interface for it is horrid.
Please, in fact, play a master merchant for 8 days as suggested. I bet you can't do it.
/agree.
Item sales expiration on personal vendors is rediculous. Anything I post for sale on my own vendor should remain as such until the item is sold, or the vendor's maintenance runs out.
I'm sick of reposting everything and getting 300+ "item did not sell"emails every week.

I have to re-iterate how important this thread is. We need to keep this on top because it outlines the overall weaknesses of our class clearly, weaknesses that go far beyond the need to fix our basic skills.
Can we undo the week 7 list and just sticky this?
I'll post to this evey day it isn't on the first page until there are 50 pages worth and someone with some pull finally reads the original post.
Inching closer and closer to master merchant every day... hoping, praying, that the class is overhauled.
Why is it the more hiring skills I get the less good looking the NPC's become? Why are all the NPC Women Bald? Did Hiring 4 give me some sort of fetish that I am not aware of?
How come we can dress our NPC's, but we can't select a distinct look for them? I'd like to see a Vendor Creation box come up like Character Creation. Make it a Master Merchant Skill. But for God sakes do something.
