Thread: How to set up a private/custom-order vendor in a public building without using an access fee

Now that they've capped the access fee, somebody could clean off your custom order vendor for a measly 50Kcr on top of the price of your goods.

I'm sure I can't be the first person to think of this, but it's something that seems to come up fairly often so I thought I'd throw my idea out there.

  • Make or buy a large number of backpacks

  • Make or buy a large number of dice. I like dice because it's the smallest schematic resource-wise, 6 units per item

  • Put a varying number of dice into each pack, you'll probably want to use a number of dice that's similar to however many items you would put into a normal custom order

  • Name each pack with a unique code consisting of at least three characters

  • Put them on your private vendor and list them for varying large amounts of money, you'll probably want to have them priced at roughly the same amounts as actual orders you'll be filling

  • When somebody custom orders something, put the items in a backpack and name it with the same scheme you named the other backpacks

  • Email the person the code of the backpack that they need to buy

Now anybody that wanted to ransack your custom order vendor would have to buy a lot of dice before they got anything worthwhile. Sure, they might eventually get to your goods, but by that time you've got an awful lot of their money. Certainly more than the 50Kcr access fee would provide.

Not that the devs shouldn't add permissions to individual vendor items, but until they do this is how I handle custom orders.

Thats actually a damn good idea except you'd have to change your "fake bags names" often as some one could be keeping note of what's there and when new items appear.

Otherwise it's a good idea

Each time you stock a custom order you could alsoretrieve a couple-three bags and re-name them. That wouldn't be too much trouble, and even if your "vendor stalker" grabbed up all the new items, he'll end up paying a mint for some dice. HA-HA!

Of course it goes without saying that you ban anyone who buys a pack that doesn't belong to him.

I already do something similar, after having a sniper come in and buy a substantial resource order I had on my special sales vendor. Instead of making chance cubes, I just took 6 units of a really worthless resource, split it into singles, then put it in the pack, named itafter one of my alt's or friendsand left it there.

I change the name/amount in the pack periodically, and I'm just waiting for when some cretin sneaks in there and purchases it. I'm really hoping they'll contact me too, sounds like it might make good fodder for the annoying customers you want to throw in the sarlacc pit thread...heh

You could also place an item into the pack that your customer could re-sell (offer) to you.

Let’s say i place a custom order for 20k worth of items. You place the items into a travel pack with my name on it. Into this pack you place a dice with a title like "Rexan, offer this for 100k to the vendor". Then place the entire pack onto the vendor for a total price of 120k.

When I purchase the order, I will pay 120k form my bank account. Then pull the dice out of the pack and offer it back to the same vendor for 100k. Once you log back in and accept the offer the 100k is placed back into my account. Nice and simple

Now if someone else were to buy my order from the vendor they would be out 100k. Since their name will not match the name on the dice for the re-fund and therefore you would reject it.
