The only logical explanation I can come up with is due to the expansion. They are expecting a surge of returning players and accounts when that comes out. This shall place a huge strain on the already gerbil run 286 database. This is why they announced the stagnant character wipe that is to occur in October. That is why they are dealing with the merchant issues right now. Because they expect an influx of characters and the strains on the database that occured when this game went live.

Then why no do what every business needs to do...increase storage and servers to handle increased demands?

And funny thing is...the release date is still somewhat set in late October....if they do character wipes in October, how many people really are gonna come back and realize they have no character, no resources, no weapons, no armor, no credits?

If they are worried about the influx of players when JTL goes live and are nerfing vendors because of that, then they should also be seriously worried about all those new players who won't be able to afford any equipment to actually play the game because very very very few crafters, in my mind anyway, will be selling any newbie stuff in favor of elite/popular items.

gota agree on the new players not geting anything considering if you go to a vendor now you get a cheap weapons then the ones for hundreds of thousands i know which one's would stay on my vendor. and with vedor size down were are people going to sell all these new ships and ship upgrades from they will come out the people making them will have hell keeping that only holds 50 items vendor for all the people who want the stuff.

My solution: I am cancelling one of my accounts. I have a combat char, and a crafter char (an armorsmith and weaponsmith). I have far too many items, and I REQUIRE master artisan for what I do, I cant afford to drop it for merchant which will still be capped.

If they wont take my $30 a month, and everyone else's money and put it into something to keep us happy, then my simple solution is to just stop giving them my money. I can live with just a combat char, but then again I have about 200mil in items/resources on my crafter char that I am going to lose thanks to this.

The reason for the nerf is the same as the Macro nerf, money. They are not getting as many new accounts now, so to make some extra cash untill JTL this is their answer. Macro nerf means less AFK players, which turns in to less bandwidth and more revenue for SOE. Same goes for the Merchant nerf its based on a smaller database which will turn in to more revenue for SOE. We continue to pay, and they continue to make changes to make the game worse.

well if they improved the game and did stuff that the players liked more people would join less people would quit now wouldnt that make more money for soe than cuting corners to bring their costs down at the cost of loosing paying customers.
