Sorry to gravedig the Artisan harvester certification debate but it's relevant here.
It's simple....less people harvesting = less stuff taking up that precious database
If I had a choice I'd take the lesser of two evils and go with the harvester certs since it's stupid that pure combat classes should be able to influence the crafter market. This would also take care of cross-server lot swapping.
So how it would work according to me
Novice Artisan - personals
Master Artisan - mediums and heavies
Novice Crafter Prof - mediums
Master Crafter Prof - heavies
let the one-starring begin!

I do not believe harvesters are nearly the strain on the database as are merchants. A harvester in coding would just be a line item that has the figure for how much to extract per hour and a running total of that extraction. Vendors require what, where, when and cataloging the hundreds of thousands of items that reside on them, including all pertinent information of that item as well (condition, damage, etc.)

This isn't just a database issue.
I'm glad folks have started to realize that this harv certs would have been better for the oligopolists than what the devs have graciously given us.
