Thread: I wonder if this vendor nerf will de-value the Credit, too...

I'm not one to give up easily. I absolutely expect that, if we indeed are forced to live with this tragic and stupid nerf, the smart business people will step up and figure a way around them. We'll do this because... we're smart.

This will certainly have the side effect that those whining to nerf smart business people on the grounds they can't compete will keep whining, but whatever. Everyone wants a hand-out.

Anyway, as I've been considering solutions to the problems that will be coming soon, I couldn't help but stop for a while on the concept of "trade".

Today, I'm primarily a miner (weaponsmith too, but that's irrelevant to this thought process). When I deliver my goods, I charge some number of credits for those goods. "Duh," you might say. Exactly. Simple transaction.

But I'm thinking that might not be the best solution in the Brave New World of Socialism.

My customers are going to have new problems. Maybe I can help them solve those problems.

In today's world, my customers' problemstypically revolve aroundacquiring sufficient raw materials to produce their goods. I sell to the best crafters in the galaxy. They sell out. Ihelp them solve that problem by providing them a LOT of resources.

But tomorrow, their problem is going to be that they don't have capacity to sell everything their customers want to buy. Entirely different problem.

So I'm thinking that tomorrow, my business model will be a bit different. Tomorrow, instead of asking for credits for the resources I deliver, I will negotiate trade arrangements with my regular customers. Instead of paying 3cpu or whatever, maybe a stack of a million Kiirium Steel will net me 7 or 8 suits of really good composite.

Of course, I can't wear 7 or 8 suits of composite armor. Rather than do that, I'll just pop another vendor up and re-sell the suits of armor on it. Obviously I would coordinate pricing with my customer, hopefully to ensure that he and I both sell the armor for exactly the same price. Hell, he might even let me drop my vendor in his shop as a service to HIS customers.

The point I'm trying to get across here is that this will not stop sharp business-people from selling their stuff and making a profit. It won't stop us from continuing to crush lazy or foolish business-people. You can't do that until you apply unequal rules to us. And I don't see SOE doing that.

I hope.

Quotable: It's pretty freaking underwhelming when the story turns out to be you, alone, in a field, for two weeks, punching toads. | At least SOE lasted a year before they went Turbine on us.
