Going to throw this idea out.

Most online games utilize a auction house system for buying and selling goods. This idea is from a soon-to-be-released game.

Instead of having players travel all over the galaxy trying to find the goods they need, why not consolidate everything into the bazzar system?

The code is all ready in place.

Crafters could still create "showrooms" to let players see what they can craft and do custom orders.

Everything else could be handled through the bazzar system.

Remove the credit limits and createfree market.

When a player bids on an item the credits are deducted from their bank account. If the player is outbid the credits are returned.

When a player wins an item the item is sent via e-mail as an attachment.

Everyone gets 10 lots for storage. If your items are priced to high for the market you can decide to lower your price or quit crafting until your stock is sold.

Anyone who has skill boxes in the Merchant profession could repick skills on login.

What do you think?

Good idea or is the debate really about having unlimited storage?

I'm not a fan of 1 bazaar for the entire server. Trying to sell things only depends on stats and price at that point.

I craft because I enjoy people using things I make. I don't craft to make a profit, although if I didn't make any profit I probably couldn't craft for long.

I really don't like the current way the merchant profession is done in this game. IMO right now all merchant is, is an extension of a crafting profession. Yes there are people that just buy goods and sell them. There is no incentive at all for that to happen though. Merchant should be able to survive on its own and be a very viable profession to make money. At the moment though almost all crafters get a vendor or 2 to sell their things. Merchants need devices in game to allow people to sell mass quantities of items to them and the merchant puts them up for sale. The merchant gets a small cut and the crafter gets their share. All credits are given when the item sells.

Merchant would still be the only profession to get advertising skills and more than 2 or 3 vendors.

Its not going to happen so I guess I can dream. I'm sure many people don't agree with the idea. I'm just not a fan of a profession that really acts only as support for crafters.

Whats humorous is that you and people who want to exploit merchant skills (the skill-drop exploit) think we havent heard any of this stuff before.

Want to exploit merchant skills? Think thats called poor game design.

The point of the post is the system for buying and selling goods in Star Wars galaxies is flawed.

The vision may have been that Merchants would collect a wide variety of goods and decorate the vendors for players to shop.

Sure, some small percentage may do this but the majority are crafters/merchants selling the goods they make.

No other MMMOG in production is following the model of having players control the "auction houses"

Why is that you think?

Why do you think the developers are trying to limit the numbers of items placed on each vendor?

Building a profession to perform basic skills everyone should have access to doesnt make sense when you step back and think about it.

What is the bazzar system in cities for?

Auction House format where the player can list loot, buy needed goods and shop the market from one location, makes too much sense doesnt it?

Ever think about the trade forums?

Instead of using the bazzars in game to sell items we get to type out bids with no rules or secure trading options.

Thoughts?

I think there's a pretty good chance this "other game" is your employer and you're here to spam for them.
