I started as a Merchant and became frustrated by the sense that my skillpoints in Merchant were buying me nothing but a title. I supported the idea that only merchants should have vendors.
Since then, I have tried running multiple characters so I could have a decent skill set and still sell things. I hate it, it loses completely the idea that I am the character. I have to think out of game to manage the two of them.
Sony clearly is more interested in the revenue from multiple characters than supporting immersion. This round of changes does nothing to make Merchant more attractive. It just forces the player to create a mule to operate vendors if he wants to craft. That makes money for Sony, but I'm not willing to play that game.
The Merchant profession still doesn't have the tools (consignment, enforcable contracts, etc.) that would make it a viable profession on its own. Sony leaves me onlythe choice of being a gimped crafter with Merchant skills to sell his wares, or of paying them for the privlege of running a mule.
If they had put some real positives in at the same time, it wouldn't have irritated me so much that they chose to enforce the skills an put in limits all at once. I suppose it shouldn't make much difference to mesince I haven't played much anyway for months, but it still feels like a rip off.
