Thread: hiring IV question

i'm having to decide between hiring 4 and advertising 4 because i don't have the SP for both. I'd prefer hiring 4 because i think the uniforms would be nicer because of how i want my shop to look. my question is this, do i need to keep hiring 4 to keep my vendors dressed up? in other words, can i get hiring 4, dress up my vendors, then drop it and get advertising 4 for my barking droid?

for reference, my current merchant template is 3031 w/ 2 SP left to go.

thanks,

i wanna apologize for this question. it didn't occur to me until later that this could certainly be an offensive question to those that've stuck it out and used all their point to take advantage of all the skill of this profession. so, rather than try and find a loop hole in the profession like some of the previous ones that've been present, i'm going to go with hiring 4 irregardless because it really does help the image of my shop.

i hope i didn't come off too much like a jerk.

thanks

Yes you can acquire Hiring IV and drop it, and the clothes remain without being penalised, like vendors getting deleted etc. However a lot of people here would regard it exploiting, and I suppose, if that is your sole intent, then yes, it would be exploiting, as the skill is only limited and mostly used only once, it does take the mickey out of the profession a bit. Also it could be fixed or altered in a way, and if it does, then it could all end in tears, as the worst that will happen is your clothed vendors could get deleted. So really not worth acquiring skill and then just dropping it.

Although if you genuinely wanted to be a Merchant, and went all the way to Master Merchant, and had it for a few months, and didn't want to bea Master Merchant anymore, but a semi-Merchant and wanted to lose that skill, then I see no harm in it, that is if your vendors are heavily stocked, as the only way to get the clothes off, is by deleting the vendor, and creating a new one, and if the vendor(s) is/are full by having about 300 or items on each vendor, would take ages trying to take them all off, assuming you have enough storage to store the items, then delete and replace vendors, and then restore items, not to mention as well the fact if you may have vendors scattered around several planets and cities, this would be really hard work just so you won't be exploiting. If you could just easily take the clothes off the npc vendorsor the game reverted the vendors to a default clothing attire then wouldn't mind in the slightest, if dropping that skill would entail, but having to go round and visit your vendors to do what you have to atm as deatiled above, is rather time consuming, and would most likely disrupt business. Obviously if vendors are empty or not much on them, then deleting/restoring them wouldn't be much trouble and do.

The hiring IV skill is only a bit of icing on cake, and really is not worth it unless you're planning to stay Master Merchant forver, or 100% content with your skillset, and have enough skillpoints to acquire it, which doesn't allow for anything else which you may prefer instead. It may make the vendors look nice, but as long as you sell what people want, it doesn't really matter what your vendors look like. The only time it may matter is if you have competition nearby selling simialr stuff, people may prefer visiting the nicer looking vendors.

So all in all I'd go for Advertising IV if not much competition around, as you get reduced vendor fees then, but if there is competetition prabably go for Hiring IV.

And remember kiddies, acquiring Hiring IV, to clothe your vendors, then immediately dropping it, is BAD, VERY VERY BAD! If you do this the vendor gremlin will come along and haunt you!

You're out of time, SOE The whole 2.5 months shouldn't have been. The game was fine up until Nov 15th. If the CU was worked on, instead of devoting time to the NGE (including the many months prior to November), the game could possibly be totally bug free by now.

My account cancels on 2nd Feb, which was a waste as only played game for 1 day to get the life day gifts, will be resubbing when creature handler, Bio-engineer, scout, and ranger return, oh and the FS village.

Having a dressed up vendor without the skill isn't an exploit. You had the skill and dressed the vendor while you had it. You're vendor shouldn't have to go ugly just because you can't dress up vendors any more. If you could still dress a vendor without the skill, thats an exploit.

This is very different than the "having more vendors than you have skills for" exploit. However, their may be some Merchants that disagree with this. I say, the skill is dressing up vendors, not having dressed up vendors.

I've always thought of this as one of those things that while it shouldn't be allowed, isn't a big enough deal to worry about.

It doesn't really detract from the profession since it's mainly just cosmetic, whereas having vendors and merchant tents without the skillpoints actually does devalue the profession.

It's too bad that vendors can't just revert back to their horrid default clothes if the skill gets dropped.

Of course, then that brings up the issue of different species/droids as well.

Again, this is mainly just cosmetic and gives no real advantage when it comes to sales.

I tend to agree with this assessment. I don't really feel that there is ongoing skill involved with having dressed your vendor. You sacrifice the items and if you drop the skill you can't change them. Seems fine to me. I'm not even all that upset with the idea that your vendor might be of a race you can no longer hire. "Hiring" to me seems to be more of a one time event where as it was obvious to me that "management" implied ongoing skills.

If we get the ability to Image design (with the help of an IDer), I think that ability should also be tied to this tree. But once the change is made, I dont see why you would need to hold onto the tree.

I guess I'd rather see some other things addressed given the limited dev time. There are a lot of things that need to be addressed, and other cool features to be implemented. I'd still like to see the merchant carts/stalls idea, or a better interface for the shops/bazaars, or a "restock all" button, etc. Given all the issues that need fixing, or implementing, I'd like to see these and more done first.

Vendors will wear species appropriate armor that does not require bio-linking.

oh yeah, another thing i was gonna ask, do these clothes/armour pieces that you give to vendors add in any way to the total number of items in house? or do they just technically sdisappear as you cant get them back?

Much the same way that equipped clothes that you are wearing do not count against your inventory, clothes a vendor is wearing do not count against a house's item count.

The vendor itself doesn't count as an item either.
