Stickied on the NGE forum:
Hey all,
Sorry for not posting sooner, IRL stuff slammed me.
I am Guru, the Artisan Correspondent and I was one of the ones who attened the preview in Austin.
I believe I may have been the only one to play a Trader in the testing.
I will answer all the questions I can about Trader in the new system, however please recognize that we didn't have loads of time to play so I didn't get as far into it as I would have liked.
Trader: Trader is composed of four specializations:
- Munitions: Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Artisan, Merchant
- Domestics: Chef, Tailor, Artisan, Merchant
- Structures: Architect, Artisan, Merchant
- Engineering: Shipwright, Droid Engineer, Artisan, Merchant
Fundamentally, the existing crafting professions exist unchanged. What changed was how you got them. As you level trader, you pick up Artisan first, then you begin to get the novice elite of your path as well as Merchant, ending in mastery of all the crafting profs in your path. All end-game Traders will be Master Artisan and Master Merchant (as far as I could tell, I could be wrong).
As for the act of crafting, it is unchanged. You use the same interface, same resources, same tools, same experimentation.
Naturally, the stats have changed. I made some food (Artisan food) and noted that the buffs existed, however they were tweaked to work with the new character statistics (Strength, Percision, Agility, etc).
The newbie quest requires you to craft a number of different items for the Trader on the station, for which they supply you the needed resources.
I cannot comment on how the elite crafting worked, as I wasn't able to level high enough to try it.
It is true that a Trader draws no agro, it was a bit wierd walking boldly into a room of agro mobs and having them ignore me. Of course, if you shoot one (Traders can use default attacks), then all bets are off. I strongly suggest not equiping a weapon as a Trader.
Bring the questions and I'll do what I can.

Ok here goes:
1. How will current crafting skills relate to the new trader profession. I am Master AS/Master Artisan/Merchant 0044. What will that get me in the NGE? I know I can't respec any of it to any othe rprofession cause i am a CL1.
2. In your opinion, why be a trader? Because of the no item decay, crafting will become obsolete and loot will be everything. I've spent tens of millions of dollars to get the best resources and now its pointless to use them.
3. How will armor transfer to the new system? Armor was profession specific. Will anyone even buy crafted armor anymore?
I'm sure I'll have more questions later! ![]()

Is it true we can only have 7 vendors max?
From what I saw on TC in the Structure Trader, Yes, there are only 7 vendours and I do believe there are only 7 vendours per trader. I will be going back in to check more out.
