First, read Dreznar's guide. Its awesome.

In addition to what he wrote you should do, do the following:

  • Build 5 small hosues, set access fee of 1 cr for 15 minutes on each. (Even if you dont have 5 vendors yet)

  • Place those houses close together, and write signs describing what the houses contain/will contain.

(It is likely a customer will visit all 5 houses once he first is there)

This alone is likely to bring you 50x5 = 250 xp pr visitor + 50 for 1 browse = 300xp

Sell only desirable items, of high quality. Typically, most players are always on the look for Pistols, Rifles, Powerups, Meat Hide Bones Metal, Spices, Steampacks, Bio Clothing, and Composite armour. Sell it cheap. You will lose money, of course, unless you find a place way underpriced. The key is to have people come back and back and back.

Now, here is the final trick to keep people flowing to your shops, heaps of them!

Announce throught shouts, through tells, mails, described bag placed in your houses that you will do the following :

Every single day you will sell one or more items you currently have listed on your vendor, for 1 credit.

Also, do this (sell for 1 cr.) so people realize it is not a "scam" or trick to pull people there. The word will spread. Admit that you are doing this to gain merchant xp fast because of Hologrind, because then it is more likely people will believe that you are actually spending lots of money on selling good items and lose alot of money.

A good location for your 5 houses, will be around an already popular vendor area, maybe outside Anchorhead.

I'm silent and since this quarter in school has hit me like a ton of bricks, I decided to pick up Merchant - Little play time needed, and 1 more profession down.

After playing it for a few days, I found that it was actually kind of fun. I have 2 vendors, 1 outside Theed and 1 outside Coronet. They're bothstocked with +1 skill tapes and armor attachments. My advertising campaign consists of 2 capper spineflaps (you could use droids, too) patrolling in each of those cities named "TellGrozForSkillTapes" - I have a "Reply" macro that gives the coords and when I'm not playing, my afk message is similar.

We all know that vendor xp is the best way to go, but that added 100+ every now and then really adds up. I get about 10-15 tells when I'm on for a few hours, plus, I've made about2 million credits. Granted, I could have made much more if I'd spent that time hunting, but, since I haven't been playing much, this was a good profession to undertake.

So, to all the Hologrinding Merchants out there, it's not that bad - go find something that people want (like skill tapes) and toss 'em on your vendors. The xp will come rolling in and you'll make some credits while you're at it.
