You can do it manuall by typing in \#xxxxxx\ where you'd like the color to start. The xxxxxx is the hex-color used in html coding. A nice interactive site that has hex color codes is http://www.zspc.com/color/index-e.html
Example: \#ffff00\John's Shop of \#ff0000\ Horrors!
would appear as:
John's Shop of Horrors!
I think you can cut and paste into the name field to get multiple lines...but there is a limit.

I was thinking about changing the building's sign type from default to merchant sign type 1.

if your a merchant....you can change it with the minu....if your not...you cant change it....why would you want a comand to do that anyway? when you can just hit the radial?
Because I want to make the sign on the city hall visible, the default one is only visible at a certain angle in the entryway. I used /setname to change the name to a color so I could spot it easier.

Did you find anything out Padre? I'm curious as well, since the default signs for buildings look horrible, especially if you are trying to improve the look of your player city. My mayor has asked for the same thing, so I would love to know if anyone knows the commands to set merchant signs to appropriate levels.
