Sheessh! I continues to amaze me how devoid of understanding most people are on fundamental economics.

one of those things that sounds good, but don't work.

groups banding togehter to help one another out isn't bad, but you'll never get a huge population to hop on board any proposal such as this.

The biggest problem with that post is that is is trying to set up some kind of price fixing system that isn't needed.

Now..setting up a massive resource marketplace on Corellia isn't a bad idea. That doesn't require any price manipulation just coordination from some resource gatherers (miners) and merchants. The buyers will show up because that is where the prodcut is.

And everytime this comes up someone suggests raising the bazaar capso they can bypass the merchant profession.

I still think a better solution might be some sort of Stock Market Ticker. That way everyone KNOWS what the going rate is and can haggle as best they can. But they still have some idea of what is worth what.

Technically the system could do that without much trouble...all the sales are recorded pulling the data would be possible...its a massive amount of data though probably not easily done on any kind of realtime basis.

There can notbe any practical application of enforced price fixing. Inthe safe environment of the game, where all pvp is by consent only, the only enforcement option is social. With such a large player base, even that loses its meaning.

All price-fixing has to be done on a personal level, or by a coalition of like-minded players. It's actually very easy.

Price-fixing is an ugly (or excellent) example of pure greed (or intelligence) at work in any market. If you're alert and decisive (and rich) you can do it too. Just buy up any and all of whatevercommodity you want that is below the price you feel is "best" for it, then sell it at your favored price. Viola! You've cornered the market!

Don't bother whining to a supplier about the price if you think it's too high. Someone will buy it. It'll probably be you, if you haven't already.

Don't bother whining if you think a supplier is selling too low. Either lower the price of your sales, or buy all of the fool's stuff up before someone else snatches it.

I sell cheap, and I have a hologrinder buying my stuff as soon as I put it in and selling it on his coke machinefor the same price I do. I don't mind him doing it cos I get the money so all is good

On my server there is a central place on corellia where crafters can go to get the current best prices on resources, check on availability, and buy in bulk.

It's called my store. Be a merchant.: Buy Low, Sell High, Buy Big. **edit** The Torpedoes.

All these artificial price fixing schemes are always dreamed up by people who want to save THEIR valuable time, never mind the time spent by hardworking merchants who spend their valuable game time facilitating the trade process.
