Thread: Houses to poof on Pub 8 rollout?

Vass just posted update notes to TC that say (among other things) "When you delete a character, all harvesters and installations that the character owns will be deleted after next server restart."
It is not clear whether this is retroactive, if you are using a lot leased from a character long gone, but it seems likely. This could be hugely costly if you don't move everything out before a house (or factory) poofs. Of course the building itself is a loss, as only the owner can reclaim the deed. There were various reports in response to that post which said that houses already poof if the owner character is deleted. I have not been into leasing lots, so I don't know the current rules.
Doc, this seems an urgent correspondent issue if anyone is currently using houses on the lots of others. If it currently works like I think it does (you can lease a lot, pay the maint, and it lasts forever), many Merchants could be largely wiped out.
This seems to mean that you cannot safely put a vendor on someone else's lot unless you really trust that person. If they quit the game, your stuff is gone.
I would hope that this applies to vendors in other people's houses as well, but that would be too much to hope for.
As far as I know deleted characters items and structures have always been removed from the game. I'm not sure what the change is. It sounds like it used to be deleted immediately and they are now deleting after the restart.
Cancelled account charactersdo NOT have their structuresdeleted. This is intentional so that if you cancel your account this month and come back next month your house will still be here provided you paid the maintenance on it.
I'll ask for clarification on what the change actually is but I don't think it is really a functional change to their standing policy.

The clarification I am getting is that in fact structures that were owned by deleted characters were NOT being deleted properly if someone else was on the admin list. This is being changed. If you delete a character all installations owned by that character will be removed the next morning.
Oh-oh, I think there are going to be some very unhappy people the morning after publish day! They may be exploiters, but I doubt that will stop them from screaming.
I kind of wondered who had enough friends to run hundreds of harvesters, and still have a PA hall as a home. If I had had a second account, and known about this, it would have been tempting to keep creating characters and giving the lots to my main.
Seems to me this is worse punishment for the exploiters than banning them! Imagine having a few PA's full of stuff and seeing this comming -- what would you do with it all! If they stuff it in vendors in a house they do own, imagine the flood of email 30 days later and the work involved! Sounds like torture that would make the Mikado proud. LOL
{Reference: Gilbert and Sullivan's comedy "The Mikado" who sings "My object all sublime, I will achieve in time, to make the punishment fit the crime,[...]and make each prisoner pent, unwillingly represent, a source of innocent merriment." cf. http://math.boisestate.edu/gas/mikado/webopera/song17.html}
I do
