Its been brought up many times and I think it is fair to say the community is a bit split on the issue. Most everyone wants a way to make it easier for your friend to sell things to you and to facilitate a consignment type transaction where you both get pad after the sale rather than the merchant paying up front. (not that buying the items outright isn't a valid business model too)

One of our requests has been for support for consignment sales but that still involves you putting your stamp of approval on the sale. My biggest fear about giving out admin rights to non merchants is that it lessens the merchant's involvement and calls into question why the merchant is involved at all. It is obvious though that others wish there were a way to allow certain people to sell through your without you having to implicitly buy the items each time.

Very True, But it could Validate the fact I would have to stay merchant if they put in the 'remove vendor' if I give up my skills.

As implied before, I do the work in buying the item for the credit, then keep track and pay the Chef I know. Right now it is more of a symbiotic relationship, I supply the BE tissues and hold the Vendor for him, if he had access to the Vendor he could keep it stocked on his time and not mine.

Well there are so many ways to run a business, and the fact we can only play with what we have in the game.
If they would ever get the 'remove vedor' fixed, The need for a true Merchant would be maximized. Then why not be able to set up a Merchant Tent set 6 Vendors give someone Admin to a single Vendor........ (have a chef, tailor, be, weapon, armorsmith) all have their seperate vendor.

This would be ideal for the Guild hall, 6 Vendors, I as Merchant get the XP, I take a little of the top to 'rent' the Vendor.
Most Guilds have one maybe 2 of the crafting skills, if a guild mate was the vendor they could easily concentrate on their skill as crafter not Merchant. I as merchant then do all advertising and maintanace.

Anyway, you are correct there are many beliefs on how business should be run, and it will always be debated.

I would just love to see the Vendors disapear if you don't have the Skill...
Wouldn't that piss some people off.

Sorry bout that not sure what happened.

What about having Admin Rights on Vendors?

That way I don't have to run to my shop to buy the Brandy at 1 credit to turn around and put it up for Sale for my Chef friend. He can access my Vendor and place his sale...... (While I get the email when sold and pay him) (My version of Just in Time, I don't pay you unless it sells, keep my cost down by not having credits tied up in inventory)

Yeah it's a whole how do you do Business?
and granted it delves into the whole, are you my friend or are you going to steal everything from my vendor.

Just curious, the more i think about this I like it, I could set up Specific Vendors for my Guild mates, where they would each 'have there own' And maybe I take a percentage off the top.

Alli.

I wouldn't mind, at all, if they did add some kind of consignment process to merchant vendors. But, even tho this is a game, let's look at it from a real world basis.

Whena retail merchant starts a shop, how does it work? Does he buy all his materials for 1 dollar for each unit from his vendor and then pay the vendor based on what sells? Nope. He buys everything from his vendor at vendor price, marks it up, and sells it in his store. If he chooses the right product and runs his business well, everything he orders/buys sells, and he makes a ton of cash on profit over cost of the item. But, if he doesn't choose the right product, orders too much, or just doesn't run a good business, then he spends all this money buying products from his vendor and loses it all by not having any sales. Real world dictates that Merchants should stay exactly the way they are. Merchant classes in-game, buy everything from the chef, architect, weaponsmith, armorsmith, etc and sells it the best he can. It works out well. Even a consignment type agreement can be set up with the whole sell to the merchant for 1 credit and the merchant keeps up with the sales, takes a cut for himself, and gives the rest to his vendor (whatever class that may be).

While it may not be as easy to accomplish this type of transaction as this is a game and not our 40 hour a week job (Tho during my peak times, I put FAR more time into this game than I put into my 40 hour a week job), it does simulate real world business to allow only the merchant to actually be able to do the buying from the crafter and selling to the general public.

Think about it this way...how many people actually went to Lucas Arts' brick & mortar store to pick up this game? I doubt many of you did (if any...not sure a Lucas Arts store even exists). Lucas Arts and SoE published the game and sold it to distributors which sold it to a retail store where you picked it up.
