Heres an upgrade to vendors being offered items.

Perhaps merchants (maybe only masters) couldmaintaina list ofplayerson each vendor that would be permitted to add items to that vendor. In this case the payout would go directly to the crafter, except for a commission fee of a certain percentage settable by the merchant prior to the vendors initialization.

In this case, a merchant would handle all advertising and maintenance, but still give the crafters control over their items pricing and such. Merchants would of course still be able to reject items that werent of the correct type or quality. This would enable the master merchants to maintain a mall or mega-store.

This would basicly make a merchants vendor a personal bazaar.. maybe then all of a merchants bazaar-like vendors could be networked like the public bazaar.

Good idea, but ?

How would you handle vendor maintenance ?? - Unless they change maintenance to a flat over time fee, and not base it on item slaes costs, then I don't see this working. Whats to stop the artisan putting his wares up at a rediculous cost "just in case" - that would kill the merchant in vendor fees...

Don't get me wrong I would love to see this work, but unless they are going to change the way maintenance is calculated - I can't see it working.

I could be wrong, but from what I got out of the post... It seems to me it'd work pretty much like the "make an offer" except the crafter would get the money when the item sold minus whatever percentage the merchant charges for the service. Thus, the item wouldn't go on the vendor officially until the merchant accepts the item being offered...

I think it's a decent idea but if what I say is true, it wouldn't be all that different than if the crafter made an offer on the vendor for an aggreed upon price and then the merchant goes and marks it up for sale. The only thing that would be different is if the merchant had a way to view the item and accept or decline remotely.

I suppose in essence this is renting a vendor to someone. You could also stick that kind of a skill in one of the lines and start with a flat rate and add percentage pricing higher up the tree.

I'd like to see a lot of options like that. I'd also like to see flat rate and percentage fees for allowing a vendor to be placed in your house--UO is doing this with vendor contracts.

Well, the point of the 'list' I was speaking about would be to only allow people that you have selected to be able to post items. If someone was messing with you by posting extremely high priced or crap items, you could remove them from the list, automatically removing all of their items currently listed, kind of like the "reject" feature on vendors now.

My line of thinking was that any person on the listcould post objects publicly, with the merchant being somewhat of a "moderator" for the vendor. Maybe merchants could have an option to alter a sales price, with the poster being able to accept or reject the change, if it was rejected, it would be removed from the vendor.

I didn't think of the problem with maintenance rates, perhaps a merchant could set his/her own price cap to prevent obscenely high priced objects creating maintenance for you.. Of course, the way I hear it, vendor maintenance isnt much of a problem at master merchant

Now I know Merchants are the ones who sell goods on vendors in the game, but the way most people abuse the system now is they get buisness 3 or management 4 and then dump the skill after placing 6 vendors and/or getting thier maintenece fees dropped from master merchant bonus. One thought I had to make Merchant in my oppinion much more useful would be simply this. Remove the merchant additions from the management tree and change it to perhaps a 'Vendor ID' tree. Before you start screaming please keep reading.

Most people that master a craft skill would love to be able to sell thier wares on a vendor, this means one of like 3 things. Sell for dirt cheap on the bazaar, get buisness 3 or higher in merchant skills to place thier own veodor, or bug someone else to place a vendor and dump items on the vendor for them and have to manage it through a 2nd party [which to me is a royal pain in the rear]. So heres the idea..... each MASTER craft skill could get 1 vendor. The vendor would have 2 options for creation, a terminal or npc which is 100% random in race, gender, and appearance, other then it look like that skill classes trainer npc [aprons, chef hat, etc... depending on skill]. This would at least let a Master Armorsmith or Chef, or Architect, or whatever get at the very elast 1 vendor to use and sell thier goods without worry of wasting or spending points/time on getting merchant when they really dont want to do it to begin with.

Now yes I have been a Master Merchant, and honestly, I thought 6 vendors was a joke. I got bored trying to think up things to sell differently from one to another being only a tailor... I can see 2, [wookie and everyone else clothing] maybe 3 [discount junk] at most, but 6 is a waste. What I would really love to see is this in place of getting more vendors. Leave the hiring as is and have it to where for a 'fee' if you want, or for free if its a friend, you can tweak someone elses vendors race and gender, more options the more skill you have of course. Then the management tree becoming a 'Vendor ID' tree is simply that, with consent from someone else, you could customize someones vendor appearance 100%, skin colors, markings, weight, age, whatever... This would make a Master Merchant more valuable in my oppinion then just having the ability to have 6 vendors to sell more junk [and yes theres a lot of junk in the game].

Anyway, theres my idea, like it or hate it, its an idea, hehe.

Wow, you think 6 vendors is a joke? I guess it could be taken that way. However, I am wishing for another vendor now that all six have been used up. Yes, I outsourced my vendors to extremely busy retailers.

1 for things that go boom

1 for furniture and deeds to houses, factories, and harvesters

1 in a player cantina full of drink, food, & souvineers

1 full of droids

1 full of stims and med supplies

and one full of scout supplies

Yes, I am extremely busy stocking wares and sending thank you notes. But, I really think this is how SWG meant for Merchant to be played. And, I am enjoyingit. I have made a couple million in a month...just in my cut of the proceeds.

yeah there was a time I needed more than 6 vendors. The main issue with that is planets. I used to sell and take offers on 3 different planets, 2 vendors on Talus, 2 on naboo, and 1 on Tat.. My 6th vendor was a special order vendor at my droid lab. I had access to other malls and could have easily placed another 4 vendors. But stocking them would have been a nightmare. So the 6 vendor limit was a limit to me, but probably a good one.
