Thread: Effective Use of Skill Points

Thanks for the help. How does 3044 Sound? I can have Advertising III so i can register on the Planetary Map, Hiring IV for Uniforms, and Management IV for more Vendors. That leaves out Advertising IV, the entire Efficiency Tree, and the Master Box. So i would be one vendor less and no reduced costs? Doesn't seem that bad. Any opinions.
If it were me in your shoes, I would follow the above advice to 3044... Once there I would place or replace all vendor you would be using (various species and uniforms), then drop Hiring and pick up Efficiency... So you would end up at 3404 eventually... Theextra 20% reduced maintenance fees adn only 12 credits to list on the Bazaar for your advertising listings can really add up over time... ^_^

Well, technically, you don't need any of it to keep what you've got. You just need to keep it in order to be able to change things around. Specifically, you need:
Management - to place, move, replace, or even rename a vendor.
Hiring - to dress a vendor, or place/move/replace/rename a vendor and have it be one of the "advanced" types.
Advertising - to change advertising listing or vendor barking, or to reactivate advertising on a vendor you've moved(replaced).
Of course, dropping Merchant skill boxes after you've used the skills to place a vendor is generally considered a bug in the game and hence an exploit, but given how many bugs in other professions work in the opposite direction, you might feel comfortable with it. (I'll spare you my own tale of woe about all the skill boxes I have that I'm not using but need to keep for various stupid reasons.)

That was the plan
I have been a merchant for only a week or two and i am upset as much as you are about exploiters keeping their vendors.
But more to the point, who was the one star ninja? I Checked the boards and 9 out of 10 posts said master merchant then drop it. So i made a post about using what skill points i had left to be a somewhat effective merchant. The only thing i could see bothering you is the fact that i am dabbling. And coming from a carbineer i know dabbling all too well. Easily 30% of the posts on out boards involve which skills a BH should take to be an effective Jedi Hunter. We don't one star them, and then not post why. I made a post about actually playing this profession and that the fact that someone had the nerve to one star me for it, really saddens me.
Anyways to the players that helped out your advice was very informative and helped with my desicion immensely. I am going 3044 for the moment, i may in the future decide to drop off tailor and climb the rest of the way to Eff4 to drop a second tent if my armoursmithing business picks up, and then i will likely climb to master and keep it. (Not to mention the coolness of having the Propagandhist title)
I'm not pissed at you in any way, wilibus. My rhetoric is pointed squarely at said idiots that propose to you that exploiting my profession is a good thing and should be encouraged. Trust me I have not one-starred ninja'd you. I myself have been ninja'd many times on this boards by morons that have no basis to argue the exploiting point with me.
I actually am gald that you posts with all good intentions that it appears to be. I'm trying to lead you on the correct path to really be an effective merchant. But there are exploiters out there that would do otherwise, and if you follow them, you will be hurt in the long run by SOE's vendor patch.

I'd just like to say that I agree with "STOP VENDOR POACHING." I've dealt with the lack of points to do things because I've kept the required merchant skills to do what I need to do with my vendors. I started playing this game because it offered a diversified gaming experience...something for everyone. Now it seems that this game is going to the way of the PVPers. Is it because they whined the loadest? Seems like if you want to do combat, you should do combat. If you want to craft and do merchant, then do that. Don't exploit and do both!
