Thread: Advertisments in core cities?

Imagine if you have LvL IV advertising and you can actually go to Theed/Bestine/Coronet ETC... and register at a terminal to advertise one of your vendors on a electronic billboard like in the movies. It costs 10,000 credits a day to keep up and you have a selection of things you can say. But you cant type it specifically what you want, you can select a variety of types of ad barking like when you first start off with your first vendor. The reason for this is because most people have long vendor names on the map so you can see what all they sell and such, keep it simple and you'll have a wide variety of pictures to choose from.

The final idea is to walk through the center of theed by the starport and such and see advertisements flashing by on screens saying "Molk's weaponship, contains weapons/equipment/and powerups at [coordinates]" and there'll be a few pics on it (Pictures depend on the profession you choose to advertise and you can only choose one per planet. Architect has pictures of furniture and houses, Weaponsmith has pictures of FWG5's and E11 carbines, Armorsmith has pictures of Composite Armor. Finally chefs and tailors have pictures of food and clothing)

I just think this would be a lot better than the clogging of text from barking droidsand such, considering you'll see it on wide billboards and such. I dont know if this'll cause lag or not because I'm not a programmer but this seems like a good idea to me. Yes? No?

Seems like a good idea to me. It'd be a lot more "immersive" than the yell spam.

I suspect it'd be technically difficult to put text on a world object (e.g. have your text be on the billboard itself rather than in an ordinary word bubble). Dare to dream, though.

(sighs happily at thought of the UT2K4 Hellbender, which automagically sports vanity plates based on the name of the player driving it...)

I would love this option. It would be much more immersive, shouldn't be much/any more data intensive that chat spam and would be a good credit sink. I'd spend a hunk of change on this even if only for the 'prestige'...not that anybody else would think it prestigious.. but i would if it were pricey.

I shouldn't imagine it'd be more techincally challenging... it's on the order of changing the backround display of the chat bubbles so it's more 'holographic' and changing the text font as well. We already have barking so i wouldn't expect it too hard to adapt.

Basically, it'd be a static droid barker. Just with cooler effects.

No clue who one-stared you - I think its a nice idea...BUT this would mean bad lag almost certainly I think...and it would be not quite easy to implement...but other than these practically reasons I think it it would be grat, would add to immersion and should maybe tried to implement in some form. MAybe only one vidoewall in a core city - near the spaceport - where customer can watch ads? Or you can disable thes ein the options menu (which would mean loosing effectivness, but people with lower framerates would hate these anyways, lol)

No offense, but I think the idea is worthless. People will still spam no matter what they add in....it's a fact of lifefor the ingnorant two year-olds that play the game.

Edit: Not only that, but many people would use it anyways...There is no way for it to be fair for all paying customers. If you do it random it still wouldn't work because your advertisment is only being seen forlike 4 seconds. If its static it would be a waste of more to begin with.

I would rather have stuff I can ignore.

Theconcept is good, but it will NEVER happen.

Well it will never happen, true...but as for the problems: Sure spam will happen still. But it is a bit like with the barker droids and the people afk-spamming the starports - you can at least tell the "high class" spammer apart from the...well not so classy ones...

And as for time/who will be showed - I would either implement something like an auction for the free advertising slots...you cna place your ad there for maybe 7 days, when you set it up you decide on a price you want to pay and only if the price is under the X highest bidders (X being the number of free ad slots) your ad will be showed...

How is that fair to the average person. In this case the people that have billions would always win. The people that are just starting out would have no chance unless they are uber rich. This wouldn't be a fair platform....because athough it is accessible to all users, its not obtainable by most.
