I don't know if this idea has been posted or not, since there about 300 threads or so on the merchant nerf... and I have looked through a though, I may have seen an idea like this... but anwayhe's my idea...
Don't add any limits to vendors, when a crafter stocks his vendor, he has 30 days and then it goes into the stockroom. Make it so that a merchant can only (re)stock the vendors he can hold based off his skill level. 2 Weeks after a vendor no longer has any items on the 'available items' the vendor dissapears.
You now have a way to
1) get rid of empty vendor
2) keep people from picking up the skill to place vendors and then dropping it
3) allow ample time to pull stock out of the backroom and remove excess maintence
4) NOT PISS EVERYONE OFF

One problem with your idea is that sometimes items can disappear from the stock room. An example would be I had someone place a huge order for seeker droids, I put the crates on my vendor and put them in a backpack for him. Now after I had already placed the backpack with the 30 crates of seeker droids for sale the guy offers me an extra 15k if I would deliever them to him. I cancel the sale and go to retrieve the backpack from the stock room when I get a nice message that the item no longer exists. The backpack is no longer there and its not in my inventory. I did a bug report and put a ticket in only to hear the usually " Sorry we dont have any logs we can check to verify this happened so there is nothing I can do for you". So now I am out 75k

I know the pain of that, and that issue has effected us all, even me. And will continue to effect us all, nerf or no. The thing is that really dosen't effect my suggestion. What I am proposing is basicly to not allow a player that cannot place the vendor the ability to restock it, the natural order of the game works itself out.
