Thread: Alternate Solution to Vendor nerf (warning long read)

As I understand it the stated vendor nerf is being implemented for two reasons:

1: To stop the current exploit of getting merchant, dropping your vendors, and then drop merchant.

2: To save database space by removing empty vendors and by limiting the number of items on vendors.

Yes, I agree that people who place vendors as a merchant then drop the skill are using an exploit because when you drop merchant the vendors placed as a merchant are suppose to delete themsleves and its another wonderful sony bug.

Now, having said that I also know people who are using this exploit because they have goods that they need to be able to sale but they dont have the skill points to put into getting merchant.

One alternate solution to this nerf would be to not limit the numbers of item someone withmerchant can have and to introduce player crafted vendors usable by anyone.

Player crafted vendors could work like this:

1. Remove the vendor ability from the artisan tree. The ability to have a vendor starts at Novice Merchant

2. Vendors can only be crafted by merchants and can only be terminals.

3. Different levels of crafted vendors hold different amounts of items and require different levels of merchant skill to craft. For example at at Hiring 1 a merchant can craft a vendor that can hold 25 items, at Hiring 2 50 items, Hiring 3 75 items, Hiring 4 100 items. Master Merchants can create vendors that hold 200 items.

4. Non merchants are limited to how many crafted vendors they can have. For example player xyz who has no merchant skill can only drop 3 vendors that they must buy from a merchant.

5. Increased maintence rates for player made vendors.

Now as far as empty vendors goes. When a vendor becomes empty regardless of who it belongs to (merchant or non-merchat) the maintence and vendor decay increase dramaticly. For example vendor goes empty on Monday and if still empty by Wednesday it goes poof. This will reduce the number of empty vendors and generate more income for merchants because new vendors will need to be crafted and sold to replaced once that were deleted.

So what do you think?

Oops on Point 3 for player created vendors I ment for it to be vendors 1 to 4 that you can craft the different level of vendors on not the hiring tree. This idea would probaly also create money for master artisans as well because I am sure that any player made vendors would require parts like Electronic GP and Memory modules.

Sounds good to me.

But I still think players should be required to use skill points to use a vendor regardless of whether its player made or system generated. The "I want something for nothing" vendors need to come to an end.

Business 3 is a very reasonable requirement IMO. If the limits are set high enough that even elite crafters can work with vendor on that skill level then it should be sufficient. However, 110 is a ridiculous cap.

However, the autodelete function is a bad idea IMO. There are already enough bugs. An autodelete function would not be an exception I'm sure. Besides, what do people that have to study abroad, new kids in the family, or just down in the hurricane in Florida and without power for lord knows how long?

Thats a good point. How about instead of it automaticly going poof the vendor stops working, is no longer on the planetary map, and then it goe poof when they start doing the monthly charcter purge if no items have been added to the vendor? Oh and the vendor must be brought up to 100% condition just like harvesters before it can be used again.

wow! my head hurts after reading this. I never actually thought this was a big deal. still don't really. you want lots of vendors, well then become a Merchant. As for this bug, fix the bug. Quit nerfing stuff to help offset bugs. If you were robbing a bank nightly because the bank ATM machines had a bug that added two extra zeros, the bank should fix the ATM machines, not limit the amount everyone can with draw to $10 to off set the bug. USE THOUGHT when making DECISIONS. I hear it helps.
